You made me laugh so much I cried. You terrified journalists who had to interview you, where you produced some of your finest work. I'll always remember an interview with you and your mum, I loved the sense of play and silliness between the two of you and I aspire to have a little of that as I grow old with my kids. You're on your way back to Ork now, safe passage funny man.

Sad storey, I must admit I wasn't a huge fan but it is very surprising just how many comedians suffer with severe depression.

Jim Carey and Owen Wilson come to mind alongside Robyn Williams. I guess it's probably more at the forefront of media given their fame and popularity, but man o man, it just goes to show depression is a real issue and one that non sufferers need to be educated about.

Although I wasn't a big fan, I respect that he was a massively popular guy who was also a very talented entertainer for his audience and now that he has made his final curtain call, I hope his family can at least look back on the good times and enjoy his memory and legacy.

RIP

Big loss.
One the all time best stand up comedians.
I like to remember him for the roles he played in movies when he wasn't trying to be funny:
Dead Poets Society, The Fisher King, Good Will Hunting etc...
He was a talented man.

That's terrible news.

Loved his standup comedy the most. I was talking about him at work recently everyone knew his movies but nobody knew he was a comic..... Hopefully they'll do some you-tubing and edumacate themselves now.

This is Sam signing off till next week. Say Hi to Orson, Nanu Nanu!

I totally agree with you dusta. Robin was in a class of his own. I can't think of any other comedians who have done as much work and been in so many movies. I have a double cd of some of his stand up comedy which is pure brilliance. Such a sad loss.

^^ +1 ..... Robin Williams was a far greater talent than Carrey and Wilson. Geez, those two were only made by the movie careers. Williams was great in his own right before the big fellas discovered him

And now for the usual distasteful capitalising upon his demise - Channel10 bunging on Mrs Doubtfire tonight. Shame.

And the news reports with the young pretty thing that can't turn off her fake smile. Big grin as she tacks onto the end of the Robin Williams story - "and if you need help with depression or feel suicidal you can call Lifeline or......"
**** off plastic faced grinning bitch. How fake. At least turn off the smile. Disgusting.

Once again Family Guy right on cue before events unfold

In a bizarre coincidence, a Family Guy episode featuring Robin Williams which included a failed suicide attempt aired minutes before the announcement of the actor’s death.

I'm sure the comparison parrot-d was making wasn't about comedic genius, but more on the fact that all three suffer from severe depression as do many comedians. I doubt whether anyone would argue against RW being possibly the most 'unique' and 'original' funny guys in comedian history. He possibly carried the label of one of the most 'disturbed' minds also, which although contributed to his genius - obviously brought about the decision to end his life and suffering.

Simply put - a man who didn't know us, but brought many of us to tears in fits of laughter over decades, and will continue to do so well into the future.

R.I.P. Robin Williams.

pffffffff, name one Williams movie that was funny then me, myself and irene, pet detective, liar liar

forget the link between comedians and depression, its more a link between drug addicts and depression,

I guess he was sorta funny, .............................for a white guy, especially if you like heaps of energy, and lots of jokes told in a hyper homo-Spanish style accent

^^^^^ I happen to agree with you, that manic bit got old real fast for me, he was always in the same character. It was funny the first time but after that...
He was a loser, a drug addict, he did too much coke, he married his kids baby sitter, a drunk, not funny anymore, then he committed the ultimate selfish act and left his kids fatherless. My only hope is this triggers a wave of celebrity suicides

+1.. left his children fatherless, that's the kicker. I did not mind his acting and did find him funny with his more mainstream tv, movies not so much the rest.

Spot on BB. He had everything and threw it all away by becoming a drug addict.

Now his kids suffer. What a great dad....

How did a vale thread turn into an opportunity to attack someone who died because of depression?

He was a genius with problems, he self medicated, tried to make right decisions, in the end he lost the battle and died.

FFS hope none of you ever have to walk in similar shoes.

Obviously you have absolutely no concept of mental health issues or your a fool.

Suggest you do some research and/or talk to someone about depression if you think it's not real or an "Excuse" for anything I would suggest "Beyond Blue" or the "Blackdog Institute" as a start as you are totally ignorant of fact.
