The best example of this is the recent slaughter of two queensland police officers in the line of duty and one other, all based on the BS distributed by ignorant purveyors of " information" on the likes of twitter and youtube. Wiki and other " sources" are NOT the sole source of accurate information and those that think it is really need to get out more.

Bot for sure. Replies over a heap of different threads, and some don't make sense in relation to what replying to.

I've always been skeptical about the idea of being able to teach critical thinking. A lot of it comes down to someone's natural level of curiosity, attention to detail, ability to think independently, and whether they can even be bothered to think about something carefully. You can probably nurture these to some extent, but I'm not sure it can be taught, it's more of an innate ability that some people naturally do better than others.

I think logic can be taught, to people that understand the concept. And that helps a lot in critical thinking.
The trouble with logic, it's only as good as it's precepts and data accuracy. The real critical part is evaluating them.

Im not sure i'd call it an innate ability. More like a curse for some. Sometimes its an inability to let things go that don't matter. But i guess a true critical thinker would look at things from every angle and work out what matters and what doesn't.

At three years old I had a confident articulate literate numerate child, regarded as being of superior intellect by our child psychologist (friend) and suspected of being "gifted" when first meeting the school principal.
After two years in the school system I have a six year who has forgotten her times tables, has lost spelling ability, developed something of a speech impediment and accordingly has lost confidence.
I guess when it comes to home schooling it's probably more about the particular parent much like schooling is greatly affected by the individual teacher.
