With rain pouring down everywhere and only a day after former Prime Minister Turnbull likened climate change deniers within the Liberal Party to terrorists, Turnbull is arguing for a Green New Deal to shift the economy off fossil fuels.
Again he argued "These bushfires are utterly without precedent in our history."
He said, "The effect on Australia image abroad has been profound."
Talk about hysteria, fanned by a former Prime Minister.
And another attack on Scott Morrison.
Of course, in 2018, as Prime Minister and after the Tathra bushfires, Mr Turnbull argued that none of those could be blamed on climate change.
Now, Turnbull has accused the right wing media, whoever they are, of "basically operating like terrorists."
And he kept on about cheap renewables.
And can you believe it, virtually backed a similar call by the bloke, Adam Bandt, the new Greens leader who called our Prime Minister a criminal.
Turnbull argues that we owe it to ourselves and to the rest of the world.
In my view the hatred and envy that have derived from the Liberal Party getting rid of him are, obviously, in Turnbull, overwhelming.
But as I said, with the rain pouring down, it might be appropriate to remember the utterances of Tim Flannery.
Utterances, which made him the Australian of the Year in 2007.
In 2005 Mr Flannery said that Sydney's dams would be dry in as little as two years because global warming was drying up the rains.
In 2006, Flannery predicted cities such as Brisbane would never again have dam filling rains as global warming had caused "a 20% decrease in rainfall in some areas" and made the soil too hot "so even the rain that falls isn't going to fill our dams and river systems."
He Flannery predicted that global warming would so dry our continent that desalination plants were needed to save three of our biggest cities from disaster.
In 2008 he said:
"The water problem is so severe for Adelaide that it may run out of water by early 2009."
And all these utterances were accepted with biblical certainty and he was named Australian of the Year.
At what point do we say that all of these global warming alarmists have no credibility whatsoever?
But it has become a religion.
Sounds like more lies, perhaps. Even "alarmist" sites say that Flannery said the dams "could" be dry within two years, not "would" be dry. It's completely dishonest to mix "could" with "would" - they are different words with different meanings and only a liar would ignore that.
Soooo.... let's accept (despite the lies from denialists in other areas) that Flannery said that global warming was drying up the rains and Sydney's dams would be dry in 2007*. Then let's look at what happened, on the Water NSW website;
"In February 2007, Sydney's total water supply fell to an historic low of 33.9%. Warragamba's storage capacity was at its lowest 32.5%."
So, while the dams were not dry, they were at their lowest ever level - and dams in other towns have run dry. People in towns in NSW are drinking from bottled water. A few months ago, the dam in my city was far lower than anyone ever thought it could be - and that info came to me from the guy who runs our drinking water supply. Have you ever considered what would happen if the dams ran out? It's funny how so many supporters of a coalition of Libs and Nats manage to ignore the fact that dams are at record lows inland, and that towns are running out of water. It's a funny sort of coalition that ignores the country.
Anyway, in 2007, there was a decision to build the Sydney desalination plant - something that Libs claimed to be a waste of money. And then in January 2020, the Libs decided that the plant they had claimed to be a waste of money was actually too small and had to be doubled in capacity. This is the same Liberal government that said Sydney was in "the worst drought on record" and changed rules on water transfers because "water storages are depleting faster than was previously forecast".
So you're insulting Flannery for what he allegedly said; insulting the left for creating a desal plant that the right now wants to double in size; and ignoring the fact that the Libs have admitted that the drought is the worst on record and that water storages are falling faster than forecast. And you are saying that the "alarmists" are getting it wrong? Really?
* note, he actually said dams "and river systems". TA has not shown that either our dams or our river systems, in general, have filled since then. Flannery also talking about the future, which has not yet arrived. It also seems that Flannery did NOT say that Sydney's dams would run dry in two years, but that in a worst-case scenario, Sydney would be have problems.
I've got no problems with the honest, responsible right wingers I know - economically, the right wing would be good for me. But the dishonest, anti-meritocratic right wing who despise education and knowledge are a different thing.
Oh, and TA, the rain is NOT "pouring down everywhere". It's falling on the coastal fringe and some other areas. I know that honesty and truth isn't something you care about, but you may as well be reminded that Australia is a big place and it's not all situated on part of the SE coast.
