Don't understand the animosity towards the iPad? It's not designed to be a replacement Computor or laptop. It is more functional than an iPhone ( Barr none the most life changing device I've ever bought). For me it let's me work all day from the beach quoting, invoicing, spreadsheets , word docs ect. I bought a laptop years ago with the same thing in mind but due to battery life this never worked out. Anything that keeps me away from a desk is worth the money, anyone who's self employed will know exactly where I'm coming from-and approximately half the cost of a new laptop.

Don't understand the animosity towards Apple products in general, I have a iPod touch and its great, Ive only ever had turn it on & off once as it locked up for some reason but had never done it again. After the trouble Ive had with Vista on my laptop Im thinking of selling it off to get an 32gb iPad.

Does the IPAD multitask? I was told that it doesnt. That would be my only real concern.

No it doesn't. Bit annoying but the new software 4 the iPhone 3gs allows multi tasking so I would imagine it will be in the first software upgrade. That problem was my biggist issue with the pad, but most the apps I use reopen to the last task anyway. Would be nice to do it one button push as opposed to the 2 I have to do now, funny how lazy you get

The guy behind me has, I kid you not, an iPod plugged into his macBook, which is remoting into the PC on his desk. Next to that he has an iPad that is connected one way or another to the other lot. There are wires running everywhere. He flies back-forth each week with all of this stuff.

I think it's the people, not the product.

For me it let's me work all day from the beach quoting, invoicing, spreadsheets , word docs ect.

Nooooooooo.... these two things should never meet!

approximately double the cost of a Asus netbook, that has same battery life, better specs, same size ...and runs Office in its native environment. The one thing I hate on my Mac, yes I have one, is Office.

But, each to their own Mr. Berry.

Al that plus Apple is turning into a bigger monster than Microsoft. They aren't the underdogs anymore.

Yeah I got the 32GB Wifi version. Its pretty good and will do 90% of what I use my laptop for. The comments that it is just a blown up Iphone are fairly accurate but dont underestimate what a huge difference that extra screen real estate makes. It really changes the experience. I agree the 2nd generation will probably be a lot better but even as it is now its really good.

Its very portable and easy to on/off you dont have to boot up just press one button and away you go.

Perfect for watching videos in bed, on the couch, in an aeroplane, pretty much anywhere.Download the Airvideo app and you can turn your desktop into a server and stream your entire library over the wifi to the iPad. I have my laptop and external HD hooked up with airvideo so 250GB of movies accessible.

Great for reading stuff. I use an app called Goodreader which will display any PDF or most MS Office documents as well as more styles I probably dont know about. I use this a lot for work stuff. Not sure if I'd want to read a whole book on iPad I'd probably look at a kindle if I was into that but the iBooks app seems pretty good and I downloaded some free titles.

There are plenty of good media apps Im using the New York Times, Spectator and Australian apps for news and there will be more to come surely.

Games apps dont look that good, all pretty simple blown up versions of iPhone apps from what I see but I dont really play games anyway so whatever. My 7yo nephew loves the Dr Seuss apps he uses it to help his reading seems to be doing good.

Websurfing isnt great. I'm not a fan of Safari and Opera doesnt seem much better and may even be worse. I am hanging for Firefox to make an app for it. But I can get on the web without any real issues.

I was pretty happy with the Wifi version as I never really leave the house with it unless Im flying and then I cant use 3G on the plane anyway. Saying that I am just about the get a second one with 3G as I gave my original to my mum and she loves it. Shes not very good with computers but she has been using the iPad heaps every day for reading the papers, email etc.

For the record I am NOT an Apple fanboy. Have to use a Mac for work from time to time and hate it but this is different.

It's funny, 10 yrs ago ms was the huge tyrannical company and apple was the cute fluffy company that all the Computor gits loved. 10yrs later after bringing out 2 great products ( iPod and I phone) and increasing their market share, they are now pricks?? Stupid mentality I recon.
I have never liked computers always found them a pain in the ass, frustrating due largely to the ms way of thinking, never been able to understand why if I want to go from a-b why I can't just go from A to f$&@in B?!?! Usuallly ends up in me hitting it with a hammer and storming off. Now with apple I find it less stress and more productivity so for me it's all good..
Ps I'm not even sure how to spell Computor correctly

Yea that good reader app is great. I use it as a filing system for anything I can't be bothered emailing. Ultimate guitar is good too you can have the song playing while you have the tab scrolling in front of you. Haven't learnt so many new songs in years.

Another sucesful snow job - Mr Jobs.

Apple make pretty decent products (i'm not saying the don't) but what they do best is market brand snobbery.

Also I see a lot of parrallels with the 1st i-flacid and the 1st i-plod. New and shiny, but just doesn't stack up... yet.

My uncle in the states owns the company. We don't get along so I don't use the products. They're rubbish. Don't buy them.

I don't understand the vast majority of purchasers of iPad and similar products who don't do all that stuff above.
Sounds like you need one Dan, but I propose that at least half of people buy them to keep up with the Jones' and really don't need one at all.
I have a PC for computin', a mobile to talk and SMS with, and a camera to take good pics. Works just fine and dandy.

Not sure what an iped is but my old man ( tightsss of all tightasses) got a knock off iPhone in hongkong. Looked good till we found out the simcard slot didn't lock in properly making it useless everytime it slid out. IDE have a play on one first if you can

I read a review on the iped - smaller memory, slower etc. The reviewer recommended that unless you are only surfing the net, it wasnt much good.

iped is a chinese knock off. $199.00. No where to look at it, although reports say they are good. Source of report is unknown. I am thinking of purchasing one for that price if all it can so is play music & videos my old man could use it as a mp3 player at home as he finds it hard to read the screen on the normal size players, That would be worth $199 but if it does more then that better again

I bought the iPad and really happy what it can do , it's a travelers companion , keeps me online without the bulk only negative for me is lack of flash, looked into iped , too slow for it's main use and that's net connection for me. I'm sure more iPad clones will come out but I'm happy with the non issues of the iPad for transactions and stuff
