Agent nods said..
CO2 emissions from smoking is nil effect. The tobacco plant took CO2 out of the atmosphere, smoking returned it.
Well, if you want to get pedantic,
What about the land clearing to make space for 'baccy - wouldn't it be better used for food crops?
Water, fertilizer and chemicals to grow the stuff, timber burnt to dry the 'baccy.
[one study I read earlier, stated that it takes 3 pounds of timber to dry 1 pound of 'baccy]
Then there is fuel to transport it to factories.
Energy to run the factory, [hydro, gas, coal or nuke's??] and manufacture the chemicals, paper and plastics involved in processing and packaging the ciggies.
More transport [energy] storage [energy] distribution [energy] before it gets to the shop.
Having 'baccy in your shop pushes up insurance premiums, [well - it did for us in our little country shop] due to the risk of break-ins, ram raid damage and theft.
Then ........muggins comes along and buys his smokes and gets upset when they cost too much.
And last of all- the wrappers, butts and smoke.
My opinion - apart from the health risks to the smokers - primary and secondary, tobacco is a hell of a waste of resources.
The way I see it, if you want the filthy stuff - grow it yourself, [tax man might not agree though] and use it well away from anyone else.
