SSCS (Sea Shepherd) is already in WA. They have a specific boat that runs up and down running hand in hand with the #waNOsharkcull group. SSCS understand the impotence of media and in the last few days also had Shannon Doherty and Holly Combes out on the boats, you may have seen them on the news. This cull is big news all over the world, just not in WA..

SSCS has been in talks with stake holders down south as well with #waNOsharkcull to help come up with better solutions for safer water use. Alternative technology. SSCS are looking to work directly with local groups and have already said they will help in any program setups or infrastructure. Training or education programs were ever possible.

Sadly though you need to understand again that the State government got special permission from the Federal government to complete this cull for the small period so they will not directly interfere as that are simply not breaking the law. YES they are breaking many of the operating guidelines but they are only small infractions and sadly no one seems to be caring about the small semantics of animal cruelty. (Sadly also as under WA law fish are not protected under the animal welfare act) or work safe practices don't seem to be an issue either.

Its very similar to what is happening in Japan with the dolphin drives. They are legal so they will not interfere. They will however document and share sit with the world

I wouldn't put too much weight on what he said.

He was the guy putting the whaling industries side of the argument in the case.

I wouldn't expect him to say anything different to what he said, but I don't think he represents the view of the average person in japan.

If it represented the aveage view, there would not be mountains of uneaten whale meat in cold storage in japan.

It would have all been consumed in whale burgers or whatever they do with it.

From what Ive read there already is a massive surplus.

I totally agree. Japan had around 17 years worth of supply of Whale meat in storage. They did lose a small amount in the tsunami but still its not about anything other than a huge work for the welfare scheme. The IRRC and Japan ministers have said that this is about sovereign rights and them not being told what to do by a snooty NGO like Sea Shepherd.

Lets not forget that Japan gave something like $18 million of donated Tsunami fund the the company that whales in the southern ocean

Japan has an idea that if they can hunt down a species and have huge storage of that meat, it increases their value of holdings. That is also what they are working for on Tuna.. This has been released in Minutes of meetings over the years and is not secret squirrels stuff..

EDIT sorry one other point is that most of the Free School Lunch Program, is actually Dolphin meat passed of as whale

The ICR company is actually the government. It's an NPO that has evolved out of what is basically the fisheries ministry.

There's only 3 or 4 ships involved - not much of a public works scheme - and I would bet there is a large amount of ripping-off going on... as there usually is here. I seriously doubt the man in the street even knows about the money from tsunami aid being applied!

Almost 6,000 tons stored in 2010 and articles from that time mention adding it into school lunches, which is my experience of it. Market value has fallen right down...
