Just because steam locomotive and railroads as such were invented two hundreds years ago ( 1802 exactly) and Australia didn't managed still build decent rail doesn't mean the idea is automatically obsolete.

Even with recent progress in quantum physics the basic physical principles remains the same.

The rail road mass transport is the most cost/ time effective. Full stop. Nothing is going to change it.

If you consider to transport 50,000 tones from Brisbane to Perth in the fastest/cheapest/ safest/ cleanest way there is no other means to do so.

hey, I am not a billionaire or anything like that, but how is it that they have 'air bearings' and huge fans to power it along, yet have almost a 'near-vacuum' to travel in?

Or is this just an example of where someone thinks that they know heaps more than anyone else and come up with an "obvious" concept that "just must" work?

Any scientists care to explain how you have a near vacuum and then use blasts of air to lift you up and then huge fans to pull you through it?


I guess assumption number one is 'start with a billion dollars to iron out the details'.

Backward compatibility
If you think about Wide Rail in technical details - emerging possibilities are fascinating.

Suppouse the we have our wide rails 7 meter apart.

1. We could add another rail inside - then ordinary train could go on our wide line,

2. We could add two rails and we have traditional traffic in both directions

3. We could simply build two traditional rail tracks but carefully synchronized- making external dimension 7 meters apart,
Now could utilize our standard traction components - wheels and carriages. Two parallel carriages will be connected together and could carry big wide cabin or platform -spanning 7 meters !
This way on our almost typical rail road we could run either two ordinary trains in opposite directions or one wide in single direction.
Make economical sense and minimize the risk of project failure to zero.
Just smart designed two ordinary rail tracks could be easily converted into one single wide rail.

Because if it goes in a circle the trains can keep running forward. Our current system of A to B and back again means that on the return journey the trains have to run backward, which is both very inefficient and somewhat nauseating for the passengers.

The circle line is genius.

That is good news for business.
If increased capacity of our rail line create traffic - that mean business.
Both in ticket/ freight charges and mean that people are moving something - goods, items , materials. machinery. Building something maybe.

I would like to see what could be saturation point for our wide rail line on the route Brisbane to Perth ? Sydney to Melbourne ?

In other words how many full size 50,000 tones trains per day we could maximally send before we rich this saturation point and you could't not send anymore.

I guess that at this point you will earn enough on the business to lay second similar line.

Look up the statistics. The lowest cost per tonne for moving freight is by rail and ship.

At the startup ordinary train is already 30 x safer then car to travel.



I imagine that our future wide fast trains will be operated by computer autopilot.
One that doesn't have distractions, don't need to rest or make calls or send textmessages like human.
Creating autopilot for train running on fixed steel road should be also easier then flying airplane or navigating road traffic

Economy

Running on steel road is already 10 to 20 x more effective then road truck.

I am guessing that our big diameter future train may have even better proportion : wagon weight / to useful load inside.


Hopefully we could translate the efficiency into saving on freight charges.

Lets imagine that our shipping cost per pallet Brisbane to Perth can be now 20 x cheaper !


Instead of paying $1100 you could pay only $55 for shipping full pallet 1 tone load from Brisbane to Perth !

How many 100 billions $ will this fast RR cost and when would you expect it to cost $55 per ton! in some dream about 100 years from now lols

So once you've out layed about 100million times about 10000km times (how many tracks you running) times the difficulty and extra expensive of laying a railway track in some very very remote areas times Australias massive labour costs times the many union stop work costs........

Not to mention how long in passenger fares it will be to finally make a profit on the worlds largest investment.....

Not to mention, the resources in Australia aren't unlimited, so how long did you think you could take $250,000,000 worth of coal, ore out of the ground per day before it ran out
