Last time I looked labor has run Vic. and Qld . for decades . Oops the fires there are not unprecedented so don't count.

Googling a bit and it's easy to see that people have been warning about the gets of AGW and the build up of fuel load for decades, calling for more funds to prevent what's happened.
Also seems like it's cheaper for the federal government just to let the fire burn. Well, until now. Maybe.

Jokes aside, the government is the first and last port of call when it comes to solving these problems, but people seem to forget for some reason that they are our elected officials and are meant to solve these problems.

Its all well being a PM, but it takes the gloss off a little when you have a disaster happen when you are in office, such as a GFC, or in this case, huge bushfires. The way you react to it will show what sort of leader you are.

Except for TA, who just likes doing stuff.

I just care about my home state of NSW and what the current government has done about it and should do about it. Kicking the can along the road does no one any good, especially if the understanding is that 'someone else should look at it'.

Who is this someone else?

Its bad timing that these state and federal governments are facing these problems right now, but they need to deal with it, whatever party they come from. I am not just loading up on the Libs, but federally they are the ones that need to coordinate a national problem.

This is true for NSW.

However, and not to take anything away from the size and intensity and impact of these fires, they're huge, but we've had some other massive fires too. Bigger and greater loss of life.

There has been some dodgy journalism going on stating that they are all arsonists, but they are all potentially starting fires.

Hell, 25 charged with (not just arrested for) arson is enough. I imagine they might start more than one fire too.

However, this doesn't negate the fact that there has been not enough hazard reduction and/or they simply haven't worked, for a number of good reasons.

Fly really low in the mountains
Fly when it's really windy (100kph)
Low risk to pilots and ground crew

The reason as you put it "that we're still operating in the 1950s" points to you're lack of understanding of fire.
The rules that applied then are still valid. Just finished a 7 day deployment (96 hrs) , aircraft on the last day.

Oops , looks like I've upset The Truth.
Love to get him out on the fire line for a bit of realism. But he probably wouldn't pass the yearly medical and fitness test.
Hopefully people understand that these fires take a long time to wrap up. Air support is just one part of putting the fires out. The only certain way is winter and a good amount of rain.
Many of us will be working these fires for months after the media and clowns have moved on.

Yes, as Bono Adriano HolGuac says later, he knows Kato and there is no way he would insult him, so there are at least two personalities in there, unless Kato has been sniffing too many epoxy fumes and comes out as TheTruth. Somehow I doubt that.
