These are one of the 'stars' of bogan hunters I'm using to represent a life long dole bludger.
When he turns up, no CV, no work experience, stoned, smelly, dirty clothes, being a smartrse, who in their right mind is actually going to offer him a job?

They ^^^ would make great actors in a mad max movie, but really it's no wonder the beautiful and Handsome well mannered people get the job and the left overs are found down in the dole Que.
imagine everyone was nice and polite, like in japan where there is no unemployment.

Employment agencies will suck every cent out of the government for this. Sign up 20 people a day, give job seekers false hope of ever getting a job.
Some serious dollars will be made by this decision. I agree with getting bums of the lounge.

I see it as a kick to the teeth watching people around me bludge 24/7 and earn more than me who struggles with a small business and just make enough to cover cost. That really pisses me off.

Would you feel the same if your business returned a healthy profit like most?
the dole is a very small amount and if taken away would leave some very desperate people knocking on your door.
if you are on such a low income yourself then you know what it's like to live so close to poverty! Hmmm, a strong word 'poverty' something that really is not seen in Australia.

Yes I would and always have, even when I had to go on the dole eons ago, could not stand it, felt out of place for me so I busted my butt till I got a job.
People will just grab the white pages/internet to get their quota not knock on doors.

Secondary problem to the issue is also what are people going to do when they get cut off. More bashing's to steal, break & enters ect ect. A way to help curb the problem starts with big companies sending work over sea's and stupid things like the Gov sacking 3000 staff only to re-advertise the same roles months later.

in which case you will either
Still be eligible for newstart allowance (unless you are asset rich, in which case:)
You would have been eligible for the government's small business initiative, in which case you would have received newstart for a year regardless of what you earned through the business.

I'm with youngbull in the way that I see obese sloths doing rudimentary work soooooooo slowly, when I'm in an emergency **** job (going on 3 years now), fair slaving my guts out for a poverty line wage. Have the unions protected these imbiciles so much? How can I get a cushy well paid job like that? In reality, the boredom of said jobs may do my head in, but my current job is, so it's not really a concern.
I'm skilled in an unusual way which seems to have limited demand here, but buggered if I can afford to pack it in and retrain, with a family and mortgage...

That's not a secondary issue it's the heart of the issue. I say this every time this debate comes up here.

1. 5% is recognised as the lowest you'll ever get unemployment in a capitalist system. The last 5% won't or can't work.
We're very close on 6. something.
2. There are lots of controls in the existing system. Rorting is 20x harder than 20 years ago.
3. Dole money flows through the community, it's not lost money, it's straight into the economy via shops, landlords, etc.
4. What we're paying our taxes towards, as you say above, is for a stable safe society. ie that crucial bit that makes Australia way better than everywhere else.

Well I know that there are plenty of jobs going. Just today, Rio Tinto emailed me an offer to apply for a job as a railways maintenance supervisor, despite me knowing almost nothing about trains. The job I originally asked for was Lab Technician at the Ranger mine. I'm actually OK at metals analysis. Ever since, they've been offering me positions in railways operations and maintenance or supervisory roles in heavy equipment maintenance.
Will somebody tell them that the employee that they really need in HR is someone to check what they have entered in their database.

PS still available for FIFO or DIDO analytical jobs

To these hopeless characters, add another category.

Those like them, but just smart enough to at least shower and remove some of the nose rings before the interview.
Just to be found out through their Facebook. Employers do go there.

It's easy to apply for a job. You just hump your bluey up to the farm house and say "Please missus, can you spare a crust with some drippin on it for an old digger? I'd be happy to clean up the barn and shear some sheep for the privilege. Stone the crows, Luv." That's obviously what Abetz has in mind.

I am not on the dole nor have I ever been on the dole. Working for the dole as pm33 just stated is akin to slave labour.divide and conquer, what abbot fails to realise is we aren't in Rome and we aren't his pawns to shift around on the table. Last year I paid 60 grand tax. Pretty sure that covers a few people on the dole for the year. I don't see my tax benefitting any real projects or road upgraded. In fact with 24 million Aussies and under 10 percent unemployed. I'm pretty sure not only should the dole be paid but also the disability pension there trying to stop people getting. My tax dollars are helping build Victoria quay and entertainment centres. I'd much rather see it go to the dole and training for those who need it. Help them up don't hold them down

I hope some people on here don't need to apply for jobs because there are some shocking mistakes with grammar, spelling and punctuation!

If only applying for jobs were so easy.

A question is if you applied to a business asking for work, even though they didn't have a job advertised, would that be considered a Job application If so could you not just send one company two applications a day and technically have applied for 40 jobs

i agree buddy, can someone take the job of fixing the typing bugs here On sea breeze! because I'm tired of going back and correcting it, enough work just watching the dumb auto speel checker that it don't change my words. Hell who does not know the first letter of any word? Plus I was taught in school that all nouns start with a capital like Horse!!! But good grief let's not judge people on speel mistakes, as long as we get their drift. Or soon one will be expected to talk all proper like.

Things were much better in the old days when dole bludgers could insist on only working in their
chosen vocations. There were hundreds of unemployed LION TAMERS on the centrelink books.
No need to send out applications, there were no openings, especially in northern queensland
were most of these clever parasites congregated. Ahh the good old days.

Applying for jobs is what one does if there are jobs to apply for.

Applying for jobs that do not exist just wastes people's time, both the applier and the applied.

If you own a small to medium sized business and are fully or overstaffed, having to put up with applications from in the most, deadbeats, is an impost on your already fully filled time.

I like what the polly woman in Tasmania is talking about, National Service.

Any conscientious objectors to military training can still be subject to military discipline but do other public works.

Leave out the 18 to 25s out of it that are developing a career but 25 to 35s that are long term unemployed should be raked in and put to work.

My Mrs works in HR and when she posts a job ad she might get 100 + applicants and maybe 5 - 10 are suitable. Its time wasting and not fair on the person filtering through applicants. She would post an ad for a Boilermaker or Fitter with certain tickets / qualifications and Laboures or TAs apply. Why would you do that knowing that your not suitable? To get Centrelink Payments!

As I mentioned before iv been right through the system over the years and must say it works well.
there is no free ride anymore and everyone is put through the ringer when they walk in the door, a bit humiliating
for some! those benefits are a right in this country.
to pick on the unlucky ones who did't get a good upbringing, missed out on an education or were just born in the wrong place.
is unfair and not Australian.
its our fault there are not enough jobs and people who look down their noses at them have little compassion for others.
you may say they are lazy etc. but gee how many lazy workers are out there? So buy Australian, help create work, if you don't like this Gov. Then vote for another.

Yes yes I know I'm missing capital letters, you'd think it would be automatic after every full stop!
plus why the hell is the type so small?
Is it target practise in hitting the right spot to make changes?
Oh gee life is just so unfair 'bitch, complain, bitch' . It's Cold this morning, I'm getting old and the doctor wants to stick something up my private part where the sun don't shine! 'Yeah when I'm dead mate do what you want' .

Hmmm, breakfast time and there is a bit of steak in the fridge. Maybe life is not so bad after all :D.....

I agree with Cisco. The only slightly different thing I would change is to make the public works something that they can get skills out of to use against a potential career. Even if its structured as part of a skills course that can get them credit for a trade certification.

I think it would be important to change things so people no longer saw it as 'working for the dole', but as getting more skills in an area that they might enjoy doing.

The only problem with 'working for the dole'..... Lets pick a type of work ie; cleaning up street / road / parkland trees in council areas this then now has the stigma of a 'no skill' work with little or no value, do that for a couple of years & train people in the tree maintenance what you have? 'a worthless job'

What is REALLY needed is a way to inspire motivation.....Motivated people find themselves jobs, but then again motivated people wouldn't be on the dole in the first place...... So how do 'inspire motivation? Make the dole harder to get !!!!!!

This is like a dog chasing its tail !!!!!!
