Hi guys, I have recently purchased a JP AllRoundAIR, 2016 model and I thought it may be of your interest a nice and fair review. The board is this one:
jp-australia.com/2016/sup/products/inflatable-boards/allroundair/First of all, inflatable or not?Well, let me say that I come from some years of Windsurf and Kitesurf and one of the things I hate about Windsurf is the board. Every time I need to travel somewhere I can't carry with me my Windsurf gears because of my board. Now, the inflatable idea is nice. The JP AllRoundAIR can be easily carried with its backup and it's just about 10kg so not a big deal even if you want to carry the board with you while riding a bicycle. If you have a 3 pieces paddle then it becomes just the perfect combination.
One side note, I am keeping my board inflated but everyday before going out I double check the PSI and it is never 15, it always goes down to 13-12 during the night so keep in mind that even if you keep it inflated, you still need to adjust it a bit every day.
As you can see my edge is not huge because I bought the 4' one, but I have to be honest, the 4' even if fully inflated still sink a little bit in the center of the board, especially when you SUP in choppy water so I would suggest for bigger guys (I am 70kg) to buy the 6' version, it should be more stable.
Anyway, as you can see in the next pic, the board is very stable in flat water, you can easily sit in the front or back of the board and it won't sink at all, but it's too narrow to do yoga.
Flat water, choppy and small wavesI tried the board in all conditions, and this is my conclusion.
- In flat water it behaves very well except that this is an allrounder so you have to paddle right and left, if you keep paddling only on one side the board, after 10-12 strokes, tends to turn a bit even if it has 3 fins.
- In choppy water is ok, I didn't have big issues and the board is quite stable even if the chops hits you from the side, I didn't fall one time yet and I used the board approximately 10 times
- In small waves it works but it bends in the center so if it's windy and wavy you'll see the board flapping a bit if you stand on the back especially when you start to ride the wave. Nothing to worry but I cannot say that this is a wave board, I can say that if you encounter small wave, you can deal with but better to choose a smaller board for wave conditions
Material and QualitySo it's an inflatable and because of that you have to pay a bit more attention. I sometimes paddle into the board when I am racing also because I tend to look in front of me and the board get chipped very easily. It is rubber material so easy to repair but again even if you drag the board on the sand it ruins pretty quickly.
I cannot say that the quality is low, I also evaluated an RRD (Roberto Ricci) and a Starboard inflatable and I found the JP made of better material and better quality overall, especially compared to the RRD (don't buy it, it's pure crap). But again it is an inflatable board so you need to pay a bit more attention than a standard board.
Anyway, if you ask me, for a 1000 USD it is worth all pennies, really valuable and useful, especially if you travel and you have a small car and a baby like us.
