I have both the mono Silk and the modular silk 850 (which I bought for travel). Im totally happy on the standard fuse on the modular setup. I normally ride it in the short position, but in very fast conditions it can get pitchy and I prefer the long position. Personally wouldn't really want to go shorter. If you like the way the mono Silk rides, then get the standard.

Kind of a advertisement/ review here.

Not sure how much we can glean from a sponsored post, but they say it does everything pretty well. Big range, easy stow, etc. not sure how it positions itself against the pt single skin. Would expect the single to stash better but they say the battens accordion better on the hybrid and it looks like it packs down pretty small.
im sure more unbiased reviews are coming very soon.

SIze range is 2.0 to 6.0 at 0.5m increments (but no 5.5). Purple and red colors. Price should be in line with the Frigate.

Are you sure that the gel coat didnt crack when the rail bruise happened? My guess is that the same event that caused the rail bruise cracked the gel coat and now there is some minor delam happening around the crack. I wouldn't be overly concerned unless the area is flexy/squishy (which would tell me there is more going on), but I'd probably sand it out and at least paint some epoxy over it so that the delam doesn't propagate further. Seems cosmetic and I doubt there is anything structural going on. I also don't know anything about Sunova boards, and the construction and finishing could change the approach.

Based on your assessment of the Quest - is there really any need for the Frigate? 90-95% as good upwind, better stashing, better range, more intuitive, etc...? Same sizes?

Just got my 73L custom mini dart and it weighs 7.7 lbs / 3.5 kg naked. Most production boards are 5kg at this volume. It's currently -5 degrees here but I'll have it on the water in 2 weeks.

The coaster looks like a knock off of the Frank mini darts. That design involves being able to sink the tail to set the intended direction, and supposed to help for initial stability. Thanks for posting.

Only seen the coaster in photos but the volume distribution looks a lot different than the mini dart which is much more nose volume biased. Could be a great board but not really seeing a lot of similarity other than basic dims.

While waiting for the new KT "Arc" parawing boards, I've been riding an Omen parawing-specific proto type, the "Pelagic" at 76L 6'6" x 17.5. I'm 93 kg. While I initially found it very narrow (I'm tall and like some offset in my stance), I've gotten used to it. It's actually quite low volume in the nose in contrast to the thinking that we need some volume to allow the nose to rebound and not bog, but the stand out feature is the ability to take off super easily. Being so narrow it rarely catches rail and a 77cm mast feels very sporty. In high wind it slices through the air going upwind. The KT will be 78L, 6' x 20.5 or so, so it'll be interesting to compare its ease of take off with some extra stability from the added width with the Omen's torpedo shape. The KT falls more in line with the Frank mini-Dart-style design. The Omen actually releases easier than my 7'6" SUP and is far less tracky, so if there's more than marginal wind for my 4.3, the Omen is good to go and offers a very high performance feel without being crazy unstable starting. Downside is I sink quickly if the wind lulls.

This post has some good nuggets in it. Interesting to compare the different design theories out there and exciting to see whats coming from KT/Omen. I'm guessing the lack of volume in the nose of the Omen is offset with some additional length ahead of the stance? Its not so much "volume in the nose" and more "volume ahead of the stance". Ive parawinged some lower volume wing boards without enhanced nose volume and I notice that my stance scoots back vs winging the same board.

In my opinion v shaped displacement hull and pin tail are not really prerequisites. A lot depends on volume. Those features are bad on anything under a neutral volume board. Even on a positive volume board those can lead to too tracky a board which isn't a good feature. Rocker nuances are also a big feature that is overlooked here.
this whole post feels like a bad advertisement.

I know a couple of Naish sponsored riders who are down there for the winter and they are often offering demos and may be able to set you up. LMK if you want me to give you their info.

What dims is yours? Are you winging and parawinging it? Im doing 6', 20", 73L (80kg).

I think some of the confusion regarding weight is that Frank also builds custom boards based on the Mini Dart shape (with custom dims available). My understanding is that these are built much lighter than the production Axis boards. I've got one coming soon and can report weight once I have it.

Thanks! Ive got my eye on the U Carve 130 and 140. Probably some similarities to the Pure 145 that Im still getting the feel of.

can you give us a little more on the tradeoffs with the other tails (Silk and Silk HA)? I'm generally not partial to the locked in feel of a span that big, but I'm sure it really unlocks the top end of the foils. Honestly they look kind of scary and I feel like I'd inevitably put a hole in my gear (or myself).

Ive got a really big head (24") and the L fits me very comfortably with room to spare. I wouldn't say it fits small at all - probably just a head shape thing. The largest Gath was way too tight on me. Lesson is that the best helmet for someone may not be the best for others.

After going for a while without using a helmet I finally grabbed the water icon from Oakley. I was nervous to order another helmet as I feel like they are a bottomless money pit but I gotta say, I love it. It's the only helmet I've ridden that disappears on the water. When I crash, the water isn't able to grab the shape and strain my neck which is my biggest opposition to helmets.

Second this. Ive used a helmet for a while, but the WTR Icon is by far the most comfortable and best fitting helmet I've used. Love mine.

The ride engine nug easily clips on and off, but you need to remove a single screw from the side. Not sure I've seen something that comes off with hands only. In theory, you could fabricate a hook with a slot on the hook side that would allow you to thread the webbing out, but it would weaken the hook and potentially lead to failure. You wouldnt want to slot on the loaded side though.

Having been through a lot of them - my favorites are the sup style valves like FOne and Vayu use. They are probably a little heavier (negligible), can be tricky with cold hands, and occasionally I accidentally pump my wing in the deflate position like a kook - but they don't foul with sand and the pump hose seals well and allows for pretty good pressure accuracy.

Boston valves (ozone) are my least favorite. The threaded adapters make them usable, but I have nothing but frustration using them with the standard boston tip. I also find the threads get messed up easily with coarse sand and I've had them leak on me.

The "no-adapter" twist valves that attach directly to a hose are not great, but I like them more than boston. There is a convenience with not having to use an adapter, but the threads can also foul and the pressure accuracy is terrible due to lack of seal.

For the first few sessions he might want to use a high volume, WIDE, wing board that he can taxi on. He almost definitely isn't going to get onto foil with that kind of board, but it will help him learn how to build power in the sail (after playing with it on the beach), how to angle the board, and how to use the rails and foil to keep an angle and stay upwind (kind of). I think the biggest struggle going from kiting (where you have a lot of power on tap) is dealing with balancing on a board without a lot of power in the sail, so starting on this kind of board could eliminate that complication for the first couple of sessions.

Fighting the urge to let go of the bar is also something that takes a lot of getting used to.

I weigh 80 kg dry. Im usually on 60L boards, but my dedicated pwing board is 83L (although I've pwinged 60L too), so this kind of splits the difference. Dont know the exact board thickness (I'll know soonish), but with these dims its going to be relatively thin, which is what I like.

Im getting a custom Frank board built for wing and Parawing. 70L, 6'/20". Single board travel quiver. I won't give up my small sinker for dedicated winging or my bigger mid for lighter wind parawing, but I think this shape should cover me for a wide range of conditions without too much compromise. Pretty similar concept to the Indiana, but I think the efficiency of a little more length will help with the pwing. Not sure I'd differentiate Compact Mid Length from a Mid Length though... Will report back upon delivery!

NSI belt is pretty good too. It doesn't stretch or bounce like the Ozone belt and the webbing is supportive enough for a harness line (for me at least). Only issue is that the barrel toggle that closes the pouch is a little finnicky to use - it tightens very easily, but loosening it to redeploy is harder. None of these are perfect - I'd wait to see the new gen2 belts (Ozone should come in the next couple weeks) before buying anything if I were in the market.

There are a few tutorials on the Facebook Parawing group. The first time I tried it I used a loop to loop from the pigtail to the lines (note the lines weren't a loop), but as the lines tightened the knot the length became a little bit inaccurate and I was afraid they would slip. The second time I settled on knotting the lines in an overhand knot (like a pigtail) then larksheading the bar pigtail loop around them. The overhand knot is bulkier than I'd like but the connection is secure and the line length is accurate. the most critical part of it is carefully measuring and marking the lines and making sure they are shortened an identical amount and are not twisted. The black C lines are the hardest since you can't really mark them. I shortened 9" which is what most people are doing.

Taping the center lines is easy. I used tenatious tape and taped it around the center 4 lines for 2-3 inches. FoilRat did the same, and inspired this mod on the Facebook Parawing group.

I will try to get around to taking some photos.

I've shortened the lines on my 4.3 (temporary method) and clustered the 4 center a lines with tape on my 4.3 and 3. I've only had a few sessions on them since I made the mods but so far so good. I'll be traveling with them soon and will have a lot more time to test then. Both mods are very easy but the line shortening needs to be precise- so take your time. The temporary method results in a bunch of excess line hanging around which isn't ideal. I taped mine up but depending on whether I like the mod I may permanently splice later.

Anyone know where I can find specs (span, weight.) for the various Vayu wings? They don't appear to be anywhere on the website.

also, weight for the click bar vs handles or boom? Wondering what the weight penalty is for the convenience.

which model between Aura iii, Aura x2 or Eos would be the best for low end/ lighter conditions? Smaller span, lighter, gruntier, Something that feels smaller than its size. Thinking 5 or 5.5 size for this wing.

I've been using coil leashes (board to ankle) for a long time but I wind up snapping one or two a season. Typically when I snap a leash its top speed wipeout where the board gets planted and I go flying. chances are the leash has already been knicked by the foil at some point as well. Thinking about trying a 5' uncoiled leash but wondering if I'm going to snap these more without the dampening of the coil? Also, is 5' enough to get the board away from me?
what's working best for others? I know there are some other threads on this but they are very old. Not interested in a waist leash (they always get wrapped around my leg or between my legs).
