I can feel the watch buzzing during an alpha, is the buzzing telling me something useful, or just offering encouragement?

apppro and GPSTC approved both give our divisions, I think waterspeed is more general.

Waterspeed has all the GPSTC divisions as well as quite a few more that are on GPSSS. Probably best to investigate further rather than making uniformed decisions based on what you think. Accuracy is based on the watches GPS capabilities rather than the app, all the apps use the same data from the watch. Even the data coming from the last few generations of Android phones has a high level of accuracy and gives error estimates.

Telling grandma how to suck eggs.

Personally, I have found GPSTC to give excellent on-the-water feedback, and it is compatible with GPSTC and GPSSS. Installation is fiddly initially, but works fine with the provided detailed instructions.

I have found that the Motion and Garmin 255 are almost always within 0.2 knots, varying either way.

Hey MSN,

Just a quick note to check in and see if you are OK with getting the deep analysis of the theories and realities of tonight's federal budget from Seabreeze's sole resident economics expert, FormulaNova, or do you want to search the world for better skilled individuals and add it to the list ?

More importantly, how about Tipping Point tonight? Would you have gone two for forty thousand? That would have paid for an adult literacy course. www.tafensw.edu.au/course-areas/foundation-skills-english-language-and-auslan/literacy-and-numeracy-foundation-skills

Yes, because we already have plenty of those. The list is skill sets of which there is limited coverage, or current low levels of competancy.

Although, it does seem that some of the best, most capable and most prolific Pedants in Australia work remotely from the U.S. of A. {insert new seabreeze.com.au sarcasm wink emoji}

Given it has taken nearly 30 years perhaps we could add :
Forum emoji modernisers

*Competency*. {insert new seabreeze.com.au sarcasm wink emoji}

Ok I wanna know why we never needed immigration to fill some jobs decades ago. Smart kids became doctors and stuff. Some of them made coffee or flipped burgers while at uni. Dumb kids dig holes at 14 and never went to uni. We had a full spectrum.
are aussies now too good so we need servants? If we cut immigration greatly and cut welfare would more Aussies go get the service industry jobs? I dunno just musings but it seems weird everything worked well right up to the last 20-30yrs..?

"Between 1949 and 1974, over 100,000 people from 32 countries worked on the Snowy River Scheme, with more than 65% being immigrants."

Its pretty sad what the internet has become. The benefits of free information exchange, that included people in remote locations, has been destroyed by an explosion of social media misinformation, and now AI.

I'm conflicted when I consider AI. I really like how it will synthesize and answer from hundreds/thousands of webpages, instead of me having to read a dozen or so and try and summarize in my head. The other day someone showed me how they used NotebookLM to summarize a complex document and to read it out loud as a podcast. It had a male and female chatting animatedly about the content of the document, which made it really easy to absorb while driving. A pretty useful tool for students.

Where I see it going wrong is when students and researchers use generative AI and nobody notices. So the bogus material ends up being published and archived. Along comes AI who then loads the information that was generated by AI in the first place. This has a sort of oozlum bird feel about it to me. Sort of poisoning its own well. Look at what happened when they fed cows to cows . Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy!

I've heard academics complain that courses are being written with AI, students are writing assignments using AI, the academics are grading the assignments with AI and students are cheating with AI during online exams. Nobody is going to learn nothing.

Worse AI is being used to fool AI detectors. There is even an AI tool that will write an assignment over a few days, inserting a few spelling errors and then going back and correcting them. Some schools have had enough and are going back to in-classroom exams with invigilators, which will disadvantage neuro-diverse students who have trouble with old school exams.

I've had the same thing happen a few times and I think I just ignored the message and it kept logging.My Garmin battery went flat after I had a good 2 sec. Later I got a good 5x10 with the Motion. I'm pretty sure I couldn't combine two sessions from different devices with gpsspeedreader. I'm sure I have managed to combine two FIT files though.

In this video from Lake George you'll see how I beach start my 45 wide 60L speed board in shallow water (I'm 95kg). I call it a "Le Mans Start" and as others have said, three quick steps and then jump quite far forward, bearing probably 120 off the breeze. It helps having a weed fin as it's more forgiving dragging through the sand without catching.

Nicely done.

I've been caught planing across the smooth at good speed. But when I stop, and need to get out when the depth is below knee level, I've found a couple of running steps, then jump on with a foot in front of the mast to keep the board flat helps. I'll get my coat.
