I am trying to work out if I should expand my inventory of hover glide wings to better enable lighter breeze winging.

I currently have a i76 (1534 sq cm) with 42 cm stabiliser and the 81cm fuse. I took this out in ~ 10 knt breeze on my 85L Naish S25 board and it wanted to get going but just wasn't enough breeze (I weight 69 kgs for completeness).

The next step up being the i84 (2066 sq cm) which from what I understand needs (must?) to be paired with the 48 cm stabiliser. Am I kidding myself trying to use the i76 in light conditions and should make the step to i84? The other thought I have is to pair the i76 with the 48 cm stab or the i84 with the 42 stab saving some money in the process...

You can use the 42 stab for both i76 and i84 no probs , maybe consider i99 if you want to get up in 10 kns and a big wing 6m +

Does the 42 stab provide any additional lift or mainly help pumping and prolonging flight? Also my "big" wing is 5m...

The 42 is Smaller and less drag so I found it easier for pumping and I couldn't really notice much difference in the lift
but it is better for turning also. I would use the 48 if you want max lift but slower speeds and more stability , like Sup surfing in small waves when learning. So 42 = faster, less drag, looser, but less lift. 48 = slower, more drag, more stable, more lift. Once you learn how to ride efficiently you generally use the smallest stab so there is less drag and more speed.

I use the i99 in 8-15 and i84 in 10-20 both with the 90cm mast, 42 rear and long fuse ( I weigh much more than you at 90kg) with 5.4 wing
As mentioned before I find the 48 rear too draggy. At your weight the i84 would feel significantly better to foil in lighter wind than the I76.

really depends on the ride you're after. if you want early lifting and easy, go 99 w/ the big rear 84 stab. this combo seems to pair well w/ the short fuse but others have used the long fuse w/ success too.

The 76 in B w/ the long fuse and small rear 42 stab (basically my windfoil setup) is a much different feel. Lift is way more forward, ride is faster and less stable... much less initial lift to get going... feel like it's worth almost 1m wing size.

Both are super fun but in different ways. Have ridden both on the same day in the same conditions and enjoyed both. For getting going early, learning transitions and flying foot changes, and coasting on small wind swell, i'd go 99, short fuse, 48 stab... best pumping combo

I have an 873 Moses foil wing which I think is the same as SS i84 ie low aspect and thick.
I also have the Moses 1100 much higher aspect and thin same area as the 873.
The 873 is ok but in limited conditions where as the 1100 is excellent inconjunction with a 420 stab at 220 sq cm. Now my most used for windwing with S25 110 board, 5.3m Naish and me 76kg.

thanks for the input on the Moses 1100 vs 873. the 1100 is quite a bit higher aspect than the 873 and the 790.

as for Slingshot, the 99 is also higher aspect than the 76 and the 84. People describe the 99 as a bigger version on the 76.

1100 is higher aspect than the 99 if we are crossing brands.

I have been using a 76 Infinity with a 48 stabilizer for windsurfing, winging and sup I find it is a great setup for windsurfing and winging but no good for sup the big rear wing causes way too much drag and I find the 76 wing does lift very quickly when on the sup I am trying to find an 84 or 99 front wing but they are impossible to find new or used I have even contacted slingshot Australia who cannot help would really like to give the bigger wings go as they seem to be what I am after. So just out of interest if you have ridden slingshot and changed what what brand and size wings have you changed to.? Is there much of a noticeable difference with the larger wings. Which would be the better wing for the sup iam 85kg?...

My sup foil combo was H2 / 84. The 76 is right in the middle. You will like the 84 for winging, tons of lift. Don't worry about stab, you'll get used to whatever. I haven't tried the 99, I am sure it's great too. You may be able to find used 84s, as they have been around a while now.

I have H2 which I think is a 2018 windsurfing foil setup I never really used it always use the 76 I thought it was I better wing then I gave it a go a couple of weeks now and have not gone back to the 76 I guess it is almost a high aspect foil and solid as no worries and damage from hitting the reef but still very interested in trying the 84 am bigger wings there is just nowhere around here where you can demo any of the slingshot gear..

I have given the below thread a read, lots of interesting comments on the 84. Noticed some people are drilling an extra hole in the front wing to provide extra rigidity.

@KAOS69 - I have also been searching for shops selling them, not the easiest thing to find. Jesper from sail repair WA has one listed on the windsurfing foil buy & sell here:

I used h2 once waves got chest high or bigger....so fast and locked in, loved that wing! I think it's quite underrated. Not sure how well it would work for winging though, would have to be very high wind

I use an i84 wing for Winging and windfoiling. It works brilliantly with the 42 stab and is pretty fast for such a low aspect wing (much faster than 2019 Naish wings).

Ive also drilled out a 4th hole on the wing and helicoiled the large 8mm holes so that I now have 4 bolts through the wing into the fuselage. Makes a huge difference. The Slingshot wings are brilliant but their engineering is crude and clunky.

I found with my SS wings if I painted the inside of the wing with epoxy resin to make it a snug fit on the fuselage, you don't need any extra screws as the forces are on the fitting and not the screws. Be careful and do it in several light coats as it's easy to add too much and make it too tight. Tip the wing up to let the excess drain out while it's setting also.Once you have a good fit, round off the sharp edges on the end of the fuse as they contribute to making the inside of the wing a loose fit ,by shaving off material each time you slide the fuse into the wing, that's why they get looser over time.Fixed mine for good.

Here is my i84 with the 4th hole. It lines up with the threaded hole already in the fuselage.

Here is the diy alignment process (that worked quite well)

Create template

Fit template

Drill: pilot hole then bigger. Worked perfectly and also did it on my TimeCode68 for fun.

I then went on to thread the two larger holes with a helicoil kit so they take an M8 countersunk bolt.

I filled in the space for the mast cover cap (on the other side of the wing with polyurethane rubber).

I can now assemble the whole foil with just two alum keys and no fiddling around with the cap in the foil. It makes changing wings much faster.

Thanks, Rod! That looks great! I have noticed that My bigger Infinity wings only loosened up after jumping with them. I took footstraps off after a couple of horrifying crashes and have since started on a new set of Infinity setups V3 and have not had any loose/wobbly issues. I think the last set that got loose was from a slightly pinched/deformed mast end where it connects to the fuse. That mast was never the same after hucking a few airs and landing hard on the huge foil with a big board. I decided that airs need to wait until I am on smaller/lighter gear. Come on Phantasms, hurry up!!!

Hi all, I have related question as I've bought this setup second hand and I can't figure out what size is that front wing. I'm kitefoiling on it but I was wondering if I could also use it for wingfoiling? It doesn't need much speed to start foiling when I'm on the kite but I guess it will be much more difficult with 6' SUP board attached.

That's the NF2, it's what I learnt to kitefoil with. Unfortunately it's way too small for wing foiling.

That's a bummer... do you know if it will work with just a larger slingshot wing on the front or do I need a completely new setup? I'm trying to put together something for my missus as she is a bit too scared of kitesurfing but we figured wing foiling might be something she likes. The problem is we don't want to invest too much to find out.

Ive used the i99 the i84 and also the i76 for winging. All work well but more wind and better technique for each smaller one.
The 48 cm rear stab works ok but i prefer the 42 because it turns better.
I only ave the long fuse.

I would just get the i76 and you are good to go. I am using the exact same setup (i76, 42 stab, Short Fuse + 71 or 91cm mast).

This setup has been perfect for me, my only complaint is there is no mast in between the 71 & 91. Hopefully they release a 81cm mast :S...

I am usually riding the i76 with 42 stab, too. I like it but when the wind is blowing 20-30 knots I sometimes think it is much more foil than I need plus I would really like to go faster. Has anyone tried the i65 for winging yet? I would prefer something a bit bigger but besides that it seems to be the next reasonable step down from the i76. All I can find about it is for wind- or kitefoiling.

what size of wind wing are you using for your weight with the i76?
Jeez... the new i76 costs $900 which is exactly what I paid for the whole setup with 3 masts

I am about 70kgs and use a 5 & 4 echo. For me this is a good combo as you need the 4 for when it is blowing and the 5 suits moderate winds. My setup doesn't really work in lighter breeze so I am seriously thinking of changing to an Axis foil as I can get HA foil to suit lighter breeze and they offer the mast size I want (around 80-85).
I have seen plenty of i76 for sale on here for less than the RRP. It might also be worth contacting a few of the retailers (Jesper WA Sail Repair always helped me find what I wanted).
