I'm headed to northern NSW in jan

Where is a good spot to wing foil in the waves?

It can't have a shore break.

ballina river is the spot for it. fun little waves and no shorebreak to deal with if you launch at the dog beach

Nah, both River mouth and flat rock are both crappy places to surf, foil or kite.

Flatty is where they set all the drum lines,

Yuppy mate I'd go to Boring Bay,great surf at the pass, very friendly crowd around holiday time

+1, no action in ballina, especially flatrock (white shark hotspot)
boat channel is good if you like the feeling of carbon fibre scraping on rocks
