I am looking at buying a 7m duotone echo which is getting fixed. It has a 20cm tear and two 5mm holes. The 20cm tear is having a backing fabric stitched and the two 5mm holes are getting repaired with tape.
I'm sure it will make a difference but how much of a difference? Maybe it depends on who the repairer is and where the repair is.
Would you ever buy a repaired wing? Is it really an issue at all? I am not worried about the resale value, it will be my first wing and I think there is a good chance that I will put a few holes in it myself.

Ahaha. Nothing like the comfort factor of a preloved bargain.

I've been through my 4m wasp twice now. Both with proper repairs, most guys here a bit keen with over repairing, and often make way to big a hinge point. If you're stitching kite cloth, you've overdone it. Hinge points cause the surrounding sail to deform and stretch.
All you need is 3m double sided and kite cloth, make a few band aids up and a larger tape over it and you're done. I've taken my 4m from 12-46 knots, never had it do anything but perform perfect. And I'll soon give it a breath of life with new panels (yet to be decided if CZ cloth or not), as I can't justify spending $1500 on a new wing when the frame is still perfect.

I have two about 30 cm long triangle cuts in my 5.4 Slingwing, only taped with a kite repair tape and i can feel no difference in performance.
The day before the meeting of wing to foilwings i was talking to my son, who just started winging, about the benefits of windows.
Than he came back from his session and said "Done"

If you are worried about it, get the panel with the 20cm tear replaced or get it partially replaced. Ive gotten it professionally done on kites and wings before and not only is it nearly invisible, it performs at 100%.

I have collection of patch's and ripstop tape in most colours ready to go. (in glovebox)

Also alcohol cleaning wipes to make sure they are clean and adhere perfectly.

i guess the most important thing for me is how quickly you can fix and get back out into the water.

Im also considering taking up sewing to offer a Melbourne based repair service specifically for wing Vs foil Dingers.

Touch wood, no tears for me yet. but I like to be prepared.. Happy to make up a patch kit to suit colours required and swap for cold craft beer.
