How do the manufacturers work out the wind range of wing???

the duotone 7m slick sls has the same wind range as the North light wind 8m 6-16knots

I know rider weight has a bearing, but all North light wind wings have the same range.

In the blurb of North,rider height plays a role?..

Thirty years of windsurfing experience: it's all handled by the marketing departments. Any number that you can't easily measure is fair game. Also, not all liters are created equal.

Some brands in the small print specify the rider weight and foil size (75kg and 1600cm?) and in my limited experience are about right.

North want you to choose the right Light Wind Nova for your size. I don't think they specify exactly but 8m would be for a heavy rider, 8 for medium and 6 for a lightweight. They openly say that there is no need for a range of Lightwind wings as they won't perform well in stronger winds and have no top end. A heavy rider might go for an 8m? Lightwind, a 6m? Nova and so on.
Sounds fair enough for me.
That said, range depends a lot on weight, foil, foilboard, willingness to pump up on the foil and most importantly skills.

But they do have a range of light wind wings 6-8 m

their top end is 16knts

why choose an 8m when a 7 m sls does the same job,is cheaper,and performs in the same wind range.

Sure rider imput is the key.,put a 2140ha with a 6m unit wait for a gust and a 95kg rider can fly in 10-12knts.

Im asking who decides the wind range and why people would spend money on the wings.

Thx maybe I should read the fine print
