With the distances people are able to travel on foils etc
What are people using to communicate should the need arise whilst out foiling?
I purchased a "waterproof" bag from amazon but when I returned my old Samsung looked like a phone in a fish bowl
Upgraded to the iphone and whilst they say its water proof etc I don't want to risk it again
I am not overly keen to get wrapped up in how fast I went etc just looking for something I can call for help if needed
Although perhaps getting something which provides speed & details of runs etc is just another phase of foiling GAS
Anyway, what are people using please?

Common sense still needs application.
Don't foil or sail farther out than you think you can handle when something goes wrong.

I use the lifeproof case on my Phone. They work excellent. I also use Apple Watch. So can make calls on both or either.

Yep however common sense tells me it might be good to have a back up if that something unexpected happens.
In the form of alerting someone

Iphone in a lifeproof case and a dry bag, stored in pocket on front of lifejacket.
Life proof case is great you can use the phone in a wet environment but one time the charging flap opened up and it filled with water. Phone dried out and kept working but now use bag and lifeproof case. I think phone is essential as the area covered sailing is huge. Even when sailing with other people you often cant see them. Gear failure is just a matter of time.

I carry a whistle with me to attract attention or comm via morse code. Don't want the hassle of phones with me

Apple Watch is my choice. The WorkOutDoors app is great for tracking your sessions too.

Same as JB, waterproof case on iPhone & Apple Watch works for me. Changed to this after drowning my Samsung phone. It was meant to be waterproof in a life proof cover in a waterproof bag. Triple waterproof worked well. Killed phone and lost all photos that I was going to back up one day. On DW trips that will be a distance out to sea, put on a pfd and keep within 2kms of shore (swim/paddle do able) plus on shore winds that will blow you back eventually.

I wear my Apple Watch mostly for notifications but occasionally take a call on it.

I also wear a small water bladder pack with a PLB personal locator beacon in it (acr 400 model I think). Kinda pricey but if you get blown away or have injury/damage you just pop it out and hit a button for a rescue. I feel the cost is worth it for the satellite connection and more peace of mind.

Pays to put a small bag of silica crystals or even just some tissue paper to absorb moisture inside the phone pouch , I don't think they leak water in ,but they do seem to get condensation, probably from the heat the phone generates.
