I'm a retailer, so I got it from the distributor. I planned to try it out today, but it was pretty windy and went windsurfing. Hope to try it tomorrow, but I pulled my groin doing the splits on a jump landing, so I will have to see how I'm feeling tomorrow.

I'm winging w/ the Project Cedrus 90cm mast most of the time. I also got a new SAB 92cm Surf Mast which I have put an unboxing vid up on YouTube as well. It's about 500g heavier than the 82, has a ~1cm longer chord, and has a larger plate with seemingly more reinforcement. I did not measure the thickness.

Anyway, main thing I wanted people to know w/ the new W799 is that it comes with hardware that make it compatible with the old 710 Surf Fuselage

Don't have any plans to get the 940 or 945 right now. I mostly use the 1000 for winging, and I don't have a prone board, but I did try prone foiling for the first time last weekend in Southern California using the 790 and it went pretty well. Northern California where I live is much more unforgiving as far as waves go though. Will see.

My experience with the 790 is that it's great for riding waves... it turns great and pumps on the wave really well. But pumping back out and connecting is not its strength, at least not with me riding it. Need something more high aspect with less drag. That's where the 940 and 945 are going to shine... I'm hoping. I also use the 1000 for prone which is fun, but waves need to be a bit bigger > 3-4 ft. Still working on sort it out for prone.

I live in Northern California as well and there aren't a ton of great foil spots. The ones that are decent have too many people (e.g. LM, Cowells, some spots north of the bay too but a bit of tension between foilers, SUPs, and longboarders in that spot due to SUP foilers getting closer to the lineup than they should). OB is pretty good for prone in the summer on 2-4ft days. Can find a peak with no one on it. Taking trips down to San O is worth it.

yeah i live at OB, so i've thought small, junked up days could be doable here. I've seen one guy out in front of my house. I really don't want anyone within 50ft of me if I'm learning to prone. i can imagine people trying to learn at LM and in Santa Cruz. People are doing it up at Bo... mostly in the channel which I have no interest in doing. Wondering how the 799 would do prone.

My first go was at Seal Beach in the SGR river jetty area. Waves were 2-4ft and mushy... perfect!

Stinson high tide is the best conditions I've seen, but never with S swell, as they just closeout.
Ist sup foiler I saw was Channel Bolinas, thought it was Cort...but wasn't.

Why not the Bo... too much of a whistling lure for the man? I've been there a few times and had amazing San O style rides, but too many longboarders around. It was difficult keeping my distance.

re: Cedrus mast. I've been thinking about it so I can try different foil setups without having to buy a new mast. How is the fuse to mast connection, any flex or looseness or is that just the slight trade off for being able to ride different foils?

Any line of site to availability of the 940 and 945 in the US? I see the 940 on the SAB site, but assuming shipping isn't cheap and will take a while to get here.

Bolinas, go to Channel, not log infested Patch.
Channel breaks in deeper water per wave size AND is a sand bottom.
Limantour low tide big NW swell can be good outer bar surf in deeper water. Like Bol, S swells come thru as almost closeouts.
Did you see the news Channel footage of Drakes last week? Perfect left tubes off the E reef from the cafe. No rain, but the sandbags are good. Too bad about the construction.

yeah, i've seen the SUP and prone foilers in the channel at Bo.... too crowded for my comfort level learning. Will stick to regular surfing there.

got a very short session in yesterday on the W799 and new Slick 4.0

I have a bit of an injury, so just wanted to go for 20-30 minutes and see what I felt. Normal gear used is Fanatic Sky Wing 5'0" 75l, Project Cedrus 90cm mast, SAB W1000/400/647, and Duotone Unit 4m.

For this test, I subbed the long 710 surf fuselage w/ the W799 and the S483 and the new Duotone Slick 4m. Wind was gusty, some small chopswell.

W799 seemed to get up and foiling very easily, although I only had to do that once as I stayed on foil my whole sesh. Feels slower and draggier than my W1000 (to be expected). Feels less stable/easy than the W950 and more similar to the W790. Glide on swell is very good compared to the W790 but the turn maybe not as surfy. Pumping was good/OK but not as good as the W1000. I think I'd like to try a smaller stabilizer w/ this wing. Foil made whistling noises when I got above a certain speed (maybe need to tune/sand the trailing edge). Was fun in the turns. I would actually be interested in trying this foil for prone foiling. I would say I liked it but did not love it. To be fair, many foils I didn't love my first (or few) times out, so there is some adjustment period. That said, it was very accommodating and didn't need any major adjustment to ride and do stuff. downwind 360s came out clean and easy.

Slick 4m:
+ great windows
+ nice tension/stiffness
+ small wingspan is great even though I'm decently tall
+ boom feels good

- doesn't roll over as easy in tacks as the Unit or Echo
- extra weight is noticeable when riding luffed and matching the apparent wind... clew drops more easily

I've used it with the S399 and think it's amazing - like an improved version of the 790 is my first impression. Only had an hour on it so far, pretty gusty conditions with Ensis 4.5, hopefully more to come in the next few days

thanks i'll try that next. rode my 1000 the other day after my inaugural ride on the 799.... 1000 felt like home.
