@OMGI,m far from experienced, 96kg riding an AK5.8x90l but tried a several foils. I can ride waves and fly through my jibes like 90% but still can,t tack and riding strapless means no jumping. Wings: 6m Slick, 5+4m Smik, 4+3m Airrush V1 (yes i have 2 4m

)
No kite background but did some windsurf foil fooling around and pretty decent wavesailing and SUP level.
1100+483: fully agree with you and in lightwind its still heaps of fun, but put a smaller stab on it like the 425 or the 399 and its faster.
The 950+483/399: Owned that one, it is faster as the 1100 but doesnt really feels like that in calm water. In slow waves it has good glide and I agree with Britfoil that with an smaller stab it will be faster but also less grip/even more easy to spin out. The spinouts: it can be my lack of skills but I found the 950 a bit unpredictable and easy to spin out without a warning. This can be my lack of skills but I didnt like that and sold it after I tried the Balz799...
Balz799+483/425/399,I think the Balz is my favourite foil: gets going as quickly as the 950 in the same windspeed but: more positive frontfoot pressure (what I like), faster, heaps of grip and turns 2-3times tighter. good with the 483 but awesome with the 425. Tried it with the 399 and that made it for my level too loose. Thats is probably a lack of skills. Compared to the 950 it is better in pretty much everything but the 950 has on slow swell more glide in a straight (dowenwind)line.
Where the 950 feels harder to control with 4m maxxed out the Balz799 gives me full control with an 3m maxxed out. From that I switched to wavesailing a 3.7.
940+483/425/399I tried the 940 only 5 times. it need for my weight a 5m and a bit more board speed (so a tad more wind) as the Balz. not a huge difference, but rigging and I think my wing might be on the small side the Balz probably gets going with a few pumps where 940 needs an awful lot of working to get going. Once well powered up it is really no problem. but it has a higher stall speed. The 1100 can almost stand still and fly through, the Balz can go pretty slow as well but the 940 simply needs a bit more speed otherwise it drops down. Speed: faster as the Balz by a big margin and works great with the 399 that I found too loose for my level with the Balz. It still fine with the 425 but the 483 is like an anchor for it. It works, but the 425 and 399 make an huge difference on it. Grip in turns: almost as good as the Balz but different, slightly wider and faster arcs and it has more glide. Most wind I tried it ion was 4m well powered in very confused Northsea conditions and that was pretty awesome. Feels like you have no drag compared to the 1100.
Overlap:IMO the 1100 stands alone in lightwind. I love it with 6m in less then 10knots and it is still fun with 5m and lightwind. Once the foil become a bit handfull I switch to the Balz, when the 5m wing is powered up I can go the 940 as well. Sure you can hold the 1100 down in more wind but that is hard work while at such conditions the Balz and 940 shine.The Balz and 940 have imo the same highwind control but the Balz slightly better low/midwind range.
The balz turns tighter with more grip, the 940 has more speed and glide. I pick them depending on the conditions. Dead onshore or lake I grab the Balz, waves sideshore riding the swell from the back or speeding between the windsurfers the 940 is awesome but the overlap between the 2 is huge.
Because everybody says the 1000 is even faster and has more glide as the 940 i,m seriously considering buying that one too as well.
Reason not to do is that its more nervous/looser where i like more grip. where I live the water and 5sec period (wind)waves are often pretty confused making it exciting enough, so I can see if I can demo one first as it isnt very big for my size either and i, not sure if i have the technique yet to benefit from it.
I guess that people with better skills might think different but i,m not yet there. Lots to learn :)
