I was a bit amazed that the smallest of the wing foils was 1040, but then again, great split in disciplines. The 650 kite would make an excellent small foil.

I did some wing surfing on 4ft wind swell (20-25 knots) recently and I found myself way overpowered with the Naish 1800 HA and a 5 M Matador. I'm a beginner when it comes to ocean winging, but for those conditions I was thinking about going down to a 1240 HA.

Would the 1000 MA fit those conditions better? I have a 2019 1240 Jet but it hasn't gotten much workout since I got my 1800. Should I save the money and just use the old 1240? New toys are always so tempting, but money is tight. Any advice appreciated since I don't have much experience ocean-side, but that's why I wanted to wing in the first place.

Depends on your weight, I'm 80kg and the 1040HA is my go to for swell riding in all wind conditions. I have the 1240HA too, it's a great wing and the heavier guys love it.
The 1240HA will be just fine for you, much easier to gybe than the 1800HA and you will find it will perform in the lighter stuff just as well due to its lower drag.
In time you might go smaller but you won't have a problem on selling the 1240HA as they are fully compatible with current and past Naish black foils.

Agreed. The 1800HA will top out around waist to rib high, 1240HA can def handle that and more. It and will be an easy transition for you. It comes up on foil a lot sooner then you'd think and hits that next gear compared to the 1800HA.

Well that's a bugger, the 80cm fuselage has been discontinued, was great for downwind. The 95cm works ok but bloody heavy and long, over 1.2kgs. I was out on the 95cm /1040HA yesterday, glides forever, points easily upwind and fast with heaps of control. It will be permanently fitted with the 914HA in my quiver.

I'm 100kgs and I used my 1240HA on this day and it was only about 18-20 knots.. The difference will be like chalk and cheese comparing it to your 1650.

I would def say w a 5 M wing it will come up on a steady 15 mph. I was out today w the 5M Matador LE and the 1240HA and was able to come up pretty easy.

I am 88kg, started with the 1650 Jet and after one year got the 1240HA with the plan to use it for the strong days and keep the 1650 for marginal days.............well it turned out that I have never used the 1650 again (kept it for my wife for her first year and sold it now)
Assuming a certain level you don't loose low end but gain performance (much lower drag), although it does need some serious pressure to turn it if you go fast.

But i think the 1650 Jet ist still a great foil for beginner below 90 kg and as an easy going allround fun foil - it is nicer for relaxed turns - That said i would also still have fun with it and it can get also really fast if you push it.

I felt the same way. For downwinders and petal to the metal jumping I use the 80cm fuse w the 1240 and 1040HA's. I learned how to make it carve tighter over time. I've always wished they'd come out w a 72 cm fuse though which is more in line w most brands standard fuse length. I'm not going 90+ cm's on a fuse because of weight and loss of turning. Naish..are you listening?

Just compared the weight of the new S27 64cm fuselage compared to the S26 64cm fuselage. The S27 is definitely more robust, a much larger mast to fuselage connection point and is thicker in this area. The mast adapter area has an unremovable plastic cover, insulating the carbon from the alloy and is quite a snug fit.

The S27 fuselage is 734gms, 48gms heavier than the S26 which is 686gms, but there is no alloy adapter fitted to the bottom of the mast on the S27 so it probably balances out.


The 85cm S27 carbon 100 mast is 1977grams, 78grams lighter than the 85cm S26 Composite 35 mast which is 2055gms.


Even though the S27 uses M8 hardware for the mast/fuselage connection, they are the same torx size as the wing and stab attach hardware. Nice

I agree.. It's very clever of Naish to use the same torx hole on the new M8 bolts as the other M6 bolts so that only the one tool is needed.

I recently got hold of a HA1040 and I've been surprised how good the lower end is. I have been using the HA1400, but I thought I'd try the 1040 in 10kn. Using a 7.5m Mk 4, the 1040 gets going without too much effort and is quite well behaved. Especially compared to the HA914.

I was just reading your post, And thought my recent experiences with the Jet 1240 might be of interest. I had been riding the HA1250 , and although fast and with excellent glide, I found for my skill level (average) it was a bit tricky in big chop. so I bought the Jet 1250 to smooth things out a bit. Perfect for carving and stable in waves. !!! Maybe try your Jet 1240 first before disregarding it. The only downside is, it takes a bit more power to get going than the equivalent 1240/50 foil. , and the glide is less, but It's now my favourite set up. The Jet 1240 teamed with the HA280 Stabiliser. (which speeds it up, and makes it even looser. ( there is a video on Youtube with Austin Kalama praising the set-up.)

I'm 70kg and riding a 'big' Hover at 85 litres. In had a few sessions on the 1040 with the 280 stab in the smoother conditions and the glide is unreal. Today was my first wind chop session at around 2 foot and the glide was still pretty good.
I'm using and 85cm mast, and just wondering where you position your mast in the swells? On the Hover, I have mine so half of the 'V' in Hover is covered and not sure whether I should move it forward or back a bit to try other positions.

Is naish going to focus a bit more on wing-racing with these front wings?

I think I heard the 18th of August (soon)..

This Foil is still some time away. I will have a sample here next week to try. They are a pretty specific monster coming in high end sizes, extremely thin profiles, and built to go lightning fast. A mid-High aspect ration (in comparison to some on. the market these days) for the best blend of speed, efficiency and control but likely at the cost of some bottom end and pump. For the serious wing and tow enthusiest!

Interesting comment KC, unsure of your intention here. FYI I was clocking over 20kn on my 1400 with ease the other day in crappie lake winds. Obviously this is not my "fast" foil in my quiver, but pretty reasonable. Whilst my PB is still 26kn, I haven't put much time into pushing it lately, but I am keen for a race one day if you like .

I think all these new Mach 1 foils are based on the success of the 914 and are similar in shape.

They look awesome and I love the safety feature of the chopped wing tips.

The 914 is an amazing foil, and hard to beat. The Mach 1 are a little thinner in profile, and slightly lower AR. The 914 is a weapon upwind and probably more of a "coarse" racing foil. The Mach 1's will be total speed and efficiency based, but there will be lots of cross over between the two. My samples arrive next week, so I look forward to giving the 1100 and 900 a hard spinn if we can get some wind.
