Anyone else worried about damaging their board when using a harness?

I thought I'd try this.

Climb aboard onto your elbows.

The real problem is when you fall dithering with the wing on an exit from a gybe. You drop down past the board and the hook hits it as you fall past. You have no control over that happening. It's very annoying.

Unnecessary piece of equipment like windows.

Hilly , hey DJ have you thought about zip tying a hook onto the wing handel and connect the harness line to your waist . You could actually do away with the bulky harness and connect to a camel back waist belt or inflatable pfd waist belt.

Hey Piros, I actually did similar to this and just put the spread bar onto my waist leash belt. You would be surprised how hard the wing pulls through a narrow belt, made me love my harness even more. I think a wide and more padded belt would work good, but pulling on the 2-3" of the belt was not very comfy.

I want to incorporating something using the existing leash. Thinking a hook on the 5th loop and hooks up your leash then to your waist belt.

It is only on super long journey's I need a harness anyway.

I remember once windsurfing with George Greenough and he was using a similar set up on his home made carbon booms..

It worked but I think I'll pass on doing that..

Thanks Hilly.. Yes.. They are unnecessary .. Just like windows and a harness are unnecessary for windsurfing..

Y not do it in reverse.
No hook on the harness but on the line.
Should be easy to design with the talent on here.
Maybe harness has the traditional sliding rope and a semi-rigid weighted hook on the boom line.

That rubber ball solution looks pretty good!.
I was thinking that maybe a generous cover of homemade "Sugru" (silicone+cornstarch) could do the job,moulded around the hook, but maybe it will not last long.

Keep it simple. If you want to wear a harness go back to kiting or windsurfing. I have the arms of a preying mantis and have no trouble winging for 2 plus hours without a harness. It is about technique and fitness.

Get a harness better suited to winging. My spreader bar doesn't need to be so tight it pokes out stiff and rigid. Mine will just fold under if it hits the rail. No damage.

Has anyone tried a sliding hook on a rope slider not fixed.?
Which may deflect away from damaging the board.

After I read the post about that metal hook on the waist & potential damage or injury. I thought I would definitely have a hook on the wing handle.

I would still have to make something up out of plastic or aluminium.
I thought the wing reacts differently & is different to a sailboard & a kite. So when the wing is released with either the hand holding the nose or let go altogether the wing nose will face the rider.
So I thought I would make a forward facing hook & attach it to a handle somehow. Probably bind it temporarily first. Then if it works bind it permanently with a gluegun & maybe cord or tear strap.

Then I was planning to get some kind of belt or hookless harness, attach something like a leg leash & cut it at the desired length & attach a ring on the end or just make a loop so I can attach that to the forward facing hook when needed. But that would mean using one hand to link the ring to hook.

So when letting go of your back hand or the wing altogether, then the wing will spin about 180 degrees & the ring will easily slide off the hook.
I think I'm getting a headache.
