I've rail taped my Gong 6'6" with RSPro tape. I'm learning so scrambling all over the board and don't notice the tape at all.

I rail taped my Tabou pocket air and have not noticed it at all either.

One of my boards was a foil SUP in a previous life, so is rail taped on one side. Don't notice any difference

I have a Fanatic sky wing. Found that the rails were super slippery while climbing on board from the back so have
put in some cheap 5 cm tapes from Whitworth to increase grip. The tapes have some fabric in them is super sticky comes in different colours and is extremely durable with use. Great to increase grip.They only cost a few dollars a roll.

Some of my boards are in ultralight construction (e.g. 5.2kg with pad for 105l) and need some rail protection. I have been using 3M helicopter tape with great success, because I could not use RSPro as I use helicopter tape on my paddle blade edges: RSpro textures will eat up quickly any paddle guard.

Helicopter tape is rubbery to the touch, so it has a kind of anti-slip feeling, plus it is the ultimate for impact protection - Helicopter pilots rely on it to protect the rotor blades from gravel impacts -.

I use "helicopter tape" too on rails, it's actually called blade tape and used to be applied to the leading edge of rotor blades to help stop erosion. Not used now as the blades are fitted with a stainless steel or nickel abrasion strips.

it's good if you lean your board on its side, helps stop gravel rash to the rail.
