i have the S26 in a 5.3m. when I try to pump it I find it hard due to the very loose canopy, flaps a lot. any advice on getting the best out the low end. which wings have best low end range, tight canopy's? Thanks.

I'm not sure if this vid helps but I think you will find it's a techneque thing and not an issue with the wing design.

I find short pumps work best and it's more a both arm thing rather than just a rear arm thing (like windsurf sail pumping).

All wings have someway a loose canopy, you need to rotate the wing more than just pump.

I was using my 3.5 Ensis score today, swapping between the two. Feels totally different to the S26. pumps up quick, tight canopy but twitchy compared to the S26. S26 feels more locked in.
I suppose can't have it all in awing.

I don't think it's a design issue just different skill set needed, I tend to do the big oval sweeps as in 2nd vid, will try shorter pumps and see if it gets me going early.

I have both Naish wings.. The standard WingSurfer (loose canopy) and Matador (tight canopy).. With the standard wing I can foil all day without thinking I need a harness.. It handles gusts well and does everything well except pump onto the foil in lulls at my weight (100kgs)..

The Matador is noticeably more powerful when pumping onto the foil in lulls but after a couple of hours of foiling I'm thinking I need a harness.. The load on the arms is noticeably more but this wing was designed for wave and downwind use where you flag the wing more so your arms get a rest.

Pumping up your 5.3 wing to its max recommend pressure will help you with light wind pumping up onto the foil and practice, practice, practice will help develop a good technique.. You will also learn what wind is pumpable and what is not so it's not worth pumping away if the wind is not quite there.

One good tip I got is don't just pump the wing in and out do more of a digging pump like taking a paddle stroke . Pull the bottom of the centre strut towards the water and open up the leading edge to catch the wind . This will also reduce the flapping .
