For me, after 6years of prone foiling g, if I'm wearing boots and there's full deck traction. I don't stand a chance. My failure rate goes from 5% to 90%. That front foot catches and I just cant get my foot where it goes.
I've ripped off the front traction on every prone board that came with it. The one exception is my current board, an Armstrong Wing Surf that has so much dish and raised rails I can stomp into position and then the pad itself is slippery enough I can foot wiggle.
Some people like a raised pad on the center rear to know where the mast is etc. But I find it a distraction. Tail kick is also unnecessary as unless you are suicidal or using straps, the last thing you want to do is take a step back and push your tail through the lip. I like wax for traction with booties, and for seeing where my front foot is. A thin rear pad without a tail kick is my preference.
