Hey Guys,
I want to get the best shots possible with my camera but don't know where to put it.
- Wing = depend on the wing position hence not great when held behind me
- Board = low angle and not getting much of the action
- Head = depends on where you look
- On Harness = Is this really a thing? Seems uncomfortable

What you guys think? Any other suggestion?

It certainly helps if you have an 360 camera (like the insta360 or GoPro Max)Below some samples. Left upper and left middle wingtip mounted with flymount aero. Left lower with flymount windsurf mount on wing back handle. Right (all three) insta360 back bar mount. Gives nice images but after I fell back first on my wing and nearly went through it I stopped using it. Board nose mount is nice if you follow someone and shoot for them. Head cam can be nice if I don't have to see a person's (or mine!) drippy runny nose

Best results are still when someone films you, from on the water or with a drone. Another option I still haven't explored is dropping my insta360 with pole on a floater and foiling past or around it.

For understanding why a rider decided to take a particular line when wave riding the helmet cam is the best.

I've experimented a bit with this. Two big factors aare a mount that doesn't get in the way when riding and is also easy to turn on and off (the gopro remotes are crap and I don't bother with them anymore).
The best compromise I've found is a strut mount. If your strut has a hole in the baffle to the wing (don't know the correct term for this part of the wing) you can loop a Velcro strap mount around the strut. It stays out of the way and is easy to turn the camera on and off.
using poles on the strut gives a better angle but you can't reach the camera. Helmet mount isn't a great angle and it can get tangled with your leash.
I only use the GoPro Max (360).

Can you post a pic of that setup on the strut. Agreed in GoPro remote. Great when they work but sometimes they don't also charging seems to be a problem as connections get corroded

360 cam at the rear of the center strut for me. It does add some noticable weight when flagging out in lighter wind, but otherwise works great. I do a lot of behind the back transitions where other locations don't work

I put the insta360 on top of the Gath helmet, but the wing leash during gybes was catching it, purchased the wingmount clamp but am yet to get it out of the box. Purchased the Insta360 backpack mount to mount on my impact vest, but still haven't done it. After doing a few toeside heel tacks and landing on my wing, I started to think hmmm, I could have trashed this wing. I see lots of videos of just a normal GoPro in the mouth and then in one hand, for example Oceanbound Kevin (YT Channel). But at the end of the day, I just want to get out and foil, then when I look at these vlogs I think wow why don't I do that, I think it's best somebody just paid to film you ??

I prefer the Flymount for a wing mount photo and also helmet mount for video, switching between the 2 angles gives a good all around perspective.
