The competition is really stiff now. Putting in windows and stiffening up the handles won't cut it for me. There's got to be more innovation for me to bite. I've got a 4 and 6 metre Wasp and if I decide to get a 3 and a 7 I'll be seriously looking at the new Cabrinha and a few others.

photographer is Abner Kingman. full album here: kingmanphotography.photoshelter.com/gallery/Fort-Point-Wing-Foiling/G00000RSIBuV7mvA/

The spot is Fort Point under the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. Groundswell comes in and breaks inside the bay. Current here can be quite brisk (up to 7kt). On a good ebb, the water goes glassy, and it can be the best windsurfing experience ever. Flying lit 4.0 on sheet glass with swell and waves. Where the wave actually breaks is very light to no wind, but it's not a problem on a wing... can ride really deep and just paddle back out. The surfers are probably not so thrilled about this.

We all know it's gonna be a solid wing and a good quality product. But man... so many options now. How have they offered anything different to the market?

Light and stiff will be a good start. Then good handles with very stable flying both upwind and on the nose.
It seems with current releases weight is the elephant in the room and no one is publishing them.
Ozone drove early kite innovation in surfing and racing so I think they will at least be in among the best.

Rob mentions in his interview they are light which will be a good start and if they are as stiff as their cousin the Armstrong a wing then that will be great.

PPC seems to be the current one to beat for downwind type riding but it is described as a solid build so I am assuming as heavy as my Armstrong. Too heavy.
Eppo, what is your current market leader for downwinging as you seem to be seeing plenty of the latest. Can it be improved.

For those in the market for a new wing we are left to read between the lines on forum experiences. We would be totally in the dark without the discussion.

If you get a chance, try the North Nova wings. I'm moving on from my Armstrongs, because the Norths are just as powerful but a lot lighter.

Looks like they fixed the strut shape which on V1 meant lots of back hand pressure. Also smaller leading edge and tighter canopy.

Bottom line is we've been seeing revolutionary progress on wing tech for a few years and this is more evolutionary.

We talk about weight in kites too, but the difference is that a kite tends to stay dry, some fly like **** when wet. Now our wings are constantly wet, which adds weight. Maybe the next step is a silicon coated cloth like Flysurfer use which doesn't take on water.

More evolutionary? In what way ?
ppc are not as heavy or as stiff as Armstrong. A bit to the right on that spectrum. But a close cousin I presume in terms of what it's good and bad for. Not sure you'd call ppc the best for downwinding If anything it's prowess is it's upwind ability. If all I did was down wind winging I'd be on something like a smik - super light and flags so well.

I referenced the PPC wing as comments on this forum seem to suggest it was very powerful and went upwind well which is important to me as we have to earn our downwind time regularly by working upwind. If the wing is truly powerful low down it may mean half a wing size smaller is possible which is obviously a big benefit.

I think the evolution of wings so far been unremarkable and I look forward to a revolution if it comes.

Yes some companies V1's were so bad it may look like a revolution but out of the early releases, if you had FONE or ozone you would be still waiting for something special before you put your hand in your pocket again.

In my opinion, Ozone with their V2, don't have to do too much to be up there with the best of the moment.
