Funny bunch of fellas 'round here. Who knew? :)
Mark and CH3MTR4IL5, , we've moved past the psychic bad vibes stage. In fact we may be transitioning to the she-wing phase.
I definitely don't wear the band while winging. However, I cannot get it on my finger for several days after winging. Am I the only one whose fingers swell from winging?
It sounded like this was just when you're winging. its not something that should persist. Are you new to winging or has this been going on for an extended period?
Most likely is ulnar nerve compression or median nerve compression. Google carpal tunnel and handlebar palsy and see if any of that sounds the same
(not uncommon for cyclists).
if you are relatively new to winging then probably gripping too hard. otherwise might be worth getting a harness to reduce continuous loading.
The swelling persists for several days. It's not accompanied by any other symptoms. I'm a physician and familiar with nerve compression and that doesn't seem like the thing.
Been winging for a couple years but only on an occasional basis. Beginning this July, coincident with my semi-retirement, I began winging daily for a 9-10 days with 3-4 day break, then back to winging. So I ramped up a lot in a short timeframe. I use a harness for upwinding but often unhook when the wind or swell grow too gnarly. Perhaps as my wing handling improves, so will the swelling.
I don't think this is a problem that needs a solution other than I'd like to wear a wedding band. It isn't a huge deal to my wife but it isn't nothing at all either. Regardless, I'm a bit surprised nobody else in this thread has experienced anything similar.
