Hi, Would really like to hear your thoughts on the 1200 MA foil, relative to the Foil you replaced in the video.
I currently use a Naish HA 1240, and it works well for me, at 75Kilos, on a Naish 85L Hover, and using either a Matador 5m or 4 m, but I'd like more of a 'carving' loose feel from the foil, so thought about the MA series, but was slightly worried it might be too 'twitchy' for my ability ? I can't Tack yet! Looking forward to reading your thoughts on the MA series.
If loose and carvy is what you're looking for.. you should try this foil.. At 100kgs and being an old fart my most used foil is the big HA2140 and although I have many Naish foils including the HA1240 and even the 914 I have found them (at my skill level) a bit twitchy and I struggled with the acceleration in gusts making it feel like someone has pulled the rug out from underneath me..
I wanted to start using smaller foils when the wind is strong enough but my priority is control and ease of use and when I first enquired about the new MA's I was told the 1240 is probably the better choice for winging because it will be faster.. So I originally passed on the idea of getting one.. But after thinking about it and realising that top speed was not my main goal I though this foil might actually be perfect for me.. So I took a gamble and ordered one..
I was pleasantly surprised to find it very easy to get up on the foil and I didn't do my normal up/down hobby-horsing thing that I often do with smaller foils.. and once up I felt totally comfortable and relaxed.. It still felt fast but not crazy fast.. It didn't have the glide of my big 2140 foil but that's to be expected for a foil almost half it's size..
It's still early days for me on this foil so we'll see after a few more sessions how it goes.. I like the compact shape and I'm thinking my wing could even flap against the end of it without those bread knife type wing tips that most most foils have slicing into my wing canopy.. It felt looser when up on the foil but still easy to hold a straight line.. I really liked it and glad I took the gamble.
