Just got a HS1550 foil kit with the HS1250 foil as well - using it for wing foiling.
As far as the shim goes, any advice on which one to use initially? (0 or +1?)

Been riding Naish HA1800 & SPG Albatross 250 foils so interested to see how the various setups compare.

Any other tips/insights from seasoned Armstrong frothers are welcome...

Did you get it with the unitail or the Smaller one? For winging I prefer the unitail with +1 shim. I only used the HS tail a few times wingfoiling with 0 shim.

Fwiw I prefer the HS1250 / 232 rear with the -2 TTF for powered winging ( 25kts, reas flat water). I was having high speed touchdowns / crashes with the +1 and 0 when doing speed runs , the -2 equalised the pressure between my feet more and kept the nose up. Been winging for over a year now so not a noob. I know that the -2 might be a minority viewpoint but it worked for me. It seemed to give the 232 stab ( which is quite small) a bit more oomph and stability. Didn't feel draggy either

Sounds like I'll be starting on the 0 shim & see if I need more performance go +1...

So there was no reduction in speed at all with the -2. Been thinking of trying it myself.

Wonder if using the 232/-2 would be same or similar to the 300/+1 or 0 .Anyone tested this. My theory is small tail with big angle would be the same as big tail with small angle.....as far as lift effect goes anyhow, but not turning.

-2 causes drag on waves. Helps turning and keeps you in the steeper part of the wave. Do not notice it when winging flat water.

Nope different feel totally. I used a cut down 300 and 0 shim with the 1250 the other day. Less glide and slower than 232 with -2 or 0 shim. Hard to connect runners when wing flagged out. Felt like I had weed on the whole wingding
felt good sup foil in small waves though.

I didn't feel it, I had the hammer down , sailing broad in flattish water. I'd be interested to hear how you find it if you try it.

Which means there is still a gap between the top end of the 300/+1 and the bottom end of the 232/ -2.......I do like to run the 212/+1 especially prone for performance, but I struggle with it on the ding and bigger board.

You need a smaller front wing. Dropped into my biggest wingding wave ever today 1250 -2 felt ok but the 1050 would have been way better.

Hilly how would you compare the 1250 and 1050 re getting up, staying on foil and transitions? I am winging and at 90kgs it seems a bit small but keep hearing good press on the 1050.

Anyone else using the 1050 for winging?

I have only towed on the 1050. The better wingding riders in waves here use the 1050 or 850. They say not much difference with the 1050 in getting up compared to 1250. But they are lighter than me, I will try one soon.

I'm 88 Kg and the 1250 is now my main foil for winging from 15 - 25knots. I switch to the 1050 when I'm fully powered on a 3.5.

It comes up really easy in these conditions. The turn radius is much tighter than the 1250 and it can handle bigger and steeper waves. They have similar speed but the 1250 is a flat larger radius turn where the 1050 can be jammed hard and tight onto a breaking face, so much fun. I'm used to riding the 1050 as my kite foil with a 2Kg, 90cm pocket board so my 95L wingboard feel big and I can't turn is as tight as with the kiteboard. I think the 1050 needs to be ridden with a smaller sinker volume board to really appreciate it.
