Naish have just released some new Winging specific boards in their Hover range..

They are shorter/wider with some very different design features from the normal Hovers..

I'm old (65) and tall and heavy (100kgs) and my old 125L x 6'4" Hover was working well for me and I wasn't intending to go smaller or shorter because I didn't want to make it any harder for myself..

My new board is 115L x 5'10" and being a little wider it still gives me the stability that I need..

I'm loving it..

You can see them now on the Naish site.. www.naishsurfing.com/products/boards/#foil

Looks great. I love my 85L 5'2" S25. Even with so many new boards that have come out since then I never saw anything worth changing my board for. Saying that the 4'5" 80L looks super tempting.

One question please, does this new board have a concaved deck? Hoping so.

Thanks

It would be nice to be light enough (or good enough) to ride the smaller boards..

Regarding the deck.. Just checked and it's as flat as a tack..

I'm an old guy too and 70kg and I also ride the 85L Hover. I tried the new 70L a few weeks ago.
It's 4'2" and I was surprised how easy it was to get going. I think because it's so thick, the added volume over a smaller area gives the board more resistance when you put weight on it as you get up. Even in the chops, it seems stable to start on.
It felt a bit weird because of the shape at first, but is pretty lively and easy to turn once on foil.

Nice looking board DJ, whats the reason you only run the front straps?
Im not using straps and maybe going with the front only is a good way to progress?

Yes my left leg would be quite at home on a 60 , unfortunately the rest of me needs to come along for the ride .

I just hadn't got around to fitting the rear strap..

I might even leave it that way because I rarely used the rear strap and I find myself just standing on it rather than in it and I use it to help feel that my rear foot was centered on the rear of the board.. This new board has a raised ridge down the centre at the rear of the board so I can feel that instead.

I find the front straps very useful because my front foot position is much more critical than the rear.. If my front foot is just one centimetre too far forward or back it doesn't seem to work yet my rear foot can move forward and back ten centimetres without a problem.

One risk of using only one strap is in a fall and having your foot stuck in the strap.. That's asking for an injury for sure so I have my straps extra long and loose and never jam my foot in like you do when windsurfing.. I use it just as a guide so I don't have to continually look down to check if my front foot's in the perfect position.
