I just spent several days on the 7m cwc. Here are some random thoughts.
I didn't get around to measuring it but it feels similar in wingspan to my 6.2m mantis.
you can throw it around MUCH easier than other big wings I have tried. Basically handles at least 1m smaller than it's size and probably more. You can hang it very neutral above your head during light wind jibes and I wasn't finding myself outrunning it (which I have found with other big wings). Tacks and 360s were as easy as I've felt on a wing this big.
pumping is VERY back hand oriented. I was pumping it in circles with two hands like I pump other wings and it wasn't working. Once I figured out the back hand thing I could pop it up very efficiently. This makes sense when you look at the design which has a lot more length - the additional surface area is on the trailing edge. Basically start the wing really high above your head, pump some small circles to get moving then get very aggressive with the back hand pumps and you are up.
I would guess the low end for me is somewhere around 10 knots with a 1200 sqcm mid aspect foil. Maybe 9 knots in flat water. I also rode it up to high teens and it felt totally manageable. Luffed very nicely as well.
overall pretty happy with this one. Saved several sessions for me and was considerably more fun than many 6m wings I have tried.
a little surprised how soft the batten struts are.
the handles are fine. I don't love them but they do the trick. Wish they were stiffer and more taught.
flipping the wing over is pretty annoying. No surprise given how big it is.
people are getting excited about a 7m ocean rodeo glide but I think that the cwc design is better for this use (unless the design is a lot different for the 7m size on the glide). The glide doesn't have grunt like the cwc. It's a design profile thing not a size thing.
How do you compare it to your 6.2 Mantis? Thanks.
I didn't like the 6.2 mantis very much. It just felt like a really big wing whenever I was trying to throw it around in a tack or gybe and I felt like I was often outrunning it when it was luffed on a wave or during a gybe. It just didn't fly very light.
the cwc feels a lot more manageable and nimble even though it's bigger. I think it's because it has more dihedral vs the mantis which is flatter? It's also lighter and you can feel the weight difference. I can bring the cwc around a gybe or tack quicker so I don't get hung up by it or outrun it.
the mantis is a more taught canopy than the cwc. I could pump up pretty efficiently with the Mantis, but I've got a few knots lower end with the cwc now that I've figured out how to pump it. They pump very differently from one another. The pump with the cwc is slower and more back hand focused.
I liked the smaller size mantis wings a lot, but the 6.2 didn't work well for me. My theory is that the flat profile works a lot better in small sizes and the large sizes need more dihedral. Much happier with the strike at this size.
Caveat that I haven't ridden waves with the cwc yet but I have luffed it and pumped around with it and all indications are that it will work just fine in the waves. The mantis luffed great for me and this was its strength.
