I weigh 68 kg (150 lbs) and I'm riding a 95 L with a 1800 HA foil and a 5 M wing. I had 3 sessions in a row recently where the wind was frustratingly at the limit of what I could pump up on. Scattered whitecaps, and I think it was probably steady 10 with gusts to 12. It was the gusts (and some help from the swell) that was getting me on foil.
I'm thinking about getting a wing for those days where there's just scattered whitecaps. I have all Naish gear and would like to stick with that, and I was thinking about getting the MK4 either the 7.5 or the 6.5. The goal is surfing waves.
Any advice?
You didn't say which 5M you were on? I have the 5 and 6 M Matador LT and they are power houses and I'm 80 kg's. As you already have a 5, I'd lean towards a 6 M. Either the Matador LT or MK4 would work. You'd be surprised by the high end as well. I also had the FOne 6 CWC and it's a great power wing w great control but I'm just not a fan of the floppy handles for jumping and certain transitions.
At your weight w the 1800HA and a powerful 6, once your technique is dialed in, if you can't get up, then it's a great day to do something else. ??
I'm happy to see a sub 12 knot day every now and then, helps me concentrate on the rest of the life stuff.
