Any word on these? We're supposed to release updated version in January but nothing yet.

Ive emailed Ion and they are not fast to respond, was hoping someone here might know something.

Separately, has anyone here forked out the big bucks for a wingman custom harness?

I've had the custom wingman harness vest for a few years. It's great.

Managed to track one down that was a demo from a US trade show. It looks like they won't hit the US market until later this summer. Of course, who knows with all the crazy going on...

Sideways photo but this arrived. With impact pad it's a bit on the heavy side but can be easily removed. The harness portion feels amazing. I've been riding more on the powered side and with bigger wings I feel you almost need a spreader bar. This hook set up should do the trick.

An update after a few sessions.

What I love: The waist harness portion should be offered as a stand alone item. It's outstanding. I've been using it while wearing a lycra top and/or wetsuit and it stays in place. I've also used it with the Patagonia impact vest and much prefer that over the included vest portion.

What I'm not crazy about: The vest portion... its heavy, even without the protection pad, you can feel the weight especially when wet. I My impression is that Ion designed this with the hardest of hard core rider in mind. I'm not doing flips or aerials, but it would be a good armor option if you do. For me, I can see using it in critical reef break surf where you might find yourself tumbling with your gear.

For most of what I do, I'll be using the harness portion as I described above.

Just got one and agree, its a bit heavy but the harness portion is fantastic. Wish it had floatation and/or connection points for leashes, but I'd imagine that would make it really heavy.
