Hope you are all getting some good carving and enjoying the jibes, I'm wondering what's up with the Go Foil NL series? I am a happy Go Foil user but after the initial hype couple years back I see these things for sale all over, nobody like them anymore? Do they make a good deal used or do they just come off foil too easily for people to bother keeping them? I can't help wondering.

If I can't get a GT1400 it seems the GL180 is one of the best all round fun, cruisy foils for a cool session, any ideas?

the NL and GT wings are speed control. They generate drag in a really predictable way as speed picks up so it's hard to get over-baked like on a really fast high aspect. That drag is always keeping your speed in check. I feel like I can just push and push and push the NL 160 as hard as possible and it stays predictable the whole time where as the RS 1150 if you push it like that the speed really goes to the moon and it gets temperamental.(much faster and more efficient though).

Cut the tips off on that NL if you get one. Those winglets are a hazard and I found no performance loss.

Epoxy, strictly wing foiling (not waves) do you enjoy riding the NL160 or do you find that you have a better time riding something else?

NL160 was my go to surf foil, I used it winging on the high wind or bigger wave days. For me NL190 was a better all rounder for winging. I am on RS1150 now as my go-to, but I see NL as a good utility option -- 80% the performance for 50% the price.

I agree about NL wingtips, I repaired mine 5 or 6 times ... then seeing GoFoil abandon them on new wings, I sanded them off, can't tell any difference in riding. They are wing canopy razor blades, plus dangerous for rider...I am glad that design feature has moved on.

Above was speaking from a wing perspective only. I ride the RS 1000 for wing and prone. I think the NL and GT stuff is probably a lot better winging than prone . the drag is less of a deal breaker with a power source.

I moved to the RS 1000 ASAP mostly for consistency with my surf foiling. My time with the NL was great winging, really reliable and predictable, if I had been wing only I would have stayed on it longer. Get one cheap, at the going prices you can't go wrong. Chop those tips.

Can you or someone please advise on how to "chop" my tips of my newly acquired NL190? TIA!

Hacksaw, Grinder, Dremel, Sandpaper.
The winglets are solid carbon so you won't hit any foam. Just sand them flat and away you go.

Or just gradually sand them down to what ever size you want. Then cap with a drop off superglue.

I breach the chopped foil tips on purpose and nothing happens.
The GT1400 glide a bit more and is faster, but not huge.
Both turn nicely with a FTL14

In the end those wing tip razors scared me off I guess as I ended up with an EZ1275 which feels smooth in the water but I couldn't get it going in 8-10knots so I guess it needs more speed, maybe minimum 12-14knots so I didn't even ride it yet

I consider 8kt to be extreme light wind . 10 to 12 is light wind. So not surprising you're not getting up. At 10kt i need a 6m wing with gl240 (1800cm2) or even better 7m and gt2200 (2200cm2). You could possibly do it with less but you'd be working it hard

Juan you are so right, like one poster says on this forum, at times with all the pumping the wing and the foil it's like going 2 rounds with Mike Tyson - certainly when I get back at night my head just wants to find that pillow
