65 kg rider. (riding very flat ocean, no swell, light wind often gusty) I still use the M200 (maliko) for all my light wind (6-11 knots), then the PNL185 / NL220 for medium wind (over 11 knots) am i missing out? Is the GT1770 or even the EZ1800 going to bring anything more to the table? I can almost always get out on the M200 and also shim it for nose up to get more speed. I'm always asking myself if there is a worthy very light wind big low end weapon that I'm missing.

Yep you are missing heaps. Had a GT1770 ages ago not good. The new HA wings from heaps of brands go fast and have amazing glide. Demo any large HA wings from any of AFS, Code, Lift, Armstrong, etc etc and you will get the idea.

I started on the M200 and at 85kg and learning to wing in light wind (sub 10 kts) I used a GT2200 with 17" or 20" tails on my Kalama E3 22" wide boards and found it was great for getting up easy and having heaps of sessions when no one else was out. As I progressed and bought a 19" wide DW board, I was able to get up in those really light winds with smaller foils and smaller handwings. I acquired a GT1770 and use that or my P1125 for light winds or for really small, nearly nonexistent swells. Are you using the current FTS/FTL tails?

I'm now looking at AFS or Code as my next foil brand.

graham cheers, I often read your posts about GF. I'm just trying to squeeze more out of my gear. Will be on GF for a little while longer. Yes I'm using the FTL 12.5 (my go to) and the FTS 14.5. I was just trying to find out how much difference there was between the M200 GT1770 and EZ1800, though it appears not that much. Still having a lot of fun for now!

I use the rs 1150 for just about every wind, but I usually don't go out when wind is under 10 knots. I am significantly heavier than you though and only have a 60 ltr board and my largest wing is 6m. I have a gt1400 but I never really use it because the glide on the rs 1150 is much better. I use the 14.5 short tail all the time. If the wind increases and the waves are big I use the rs975.

I am really interested in the new foils the 750 and 700. Would like to see more reviews before purchasing.

For me the best gofoil front wing for light wind is the pnl185 paired with the ft14 L or S. I'm 85kg.
I wouldn't spend any more money in any of those front wings.

I hear you. You go to their website and nothing. The only way I hear about things are through social media.

I am still using 1.5 mast, wing mostly. The only issue I have with winging is back foot straps since I usually have to have my front foot strap in the very front plugs, which can make it a big stretch between feet. I usually just go in them for jumps then out quick because it is uncomfortable.

The little proning I have tried I have to slide the mast way back in the tracks and still have to be pretty far forward. I want to get more into prone foiling so I am waiting to see what new mast they come back with before I make my decision.

kemich cheers, I think the wave factor is very import in getting foil lift, I wing in open sea with almost no swell so the lift only comes from wind power (and pumping). I've heard lots of people dont care much for the RS line so I have left them alone. cookiya I agree with you up to a point, over 11kts I love riding the pnl185 but under its a pain to keep it on foil and i switch to a more lifty foil. I guess my quiver is probably good for my local conditions - looks like I'll stick with it. Thanks for the feedback. I hope we can keep sharing our ride experiences with GF.

May I ask where are you from?
What's the rest of your gear? (Wing and board)
For me the problem in light wind is not keeping it up, the problem comes when you fell or touch down and need to go fly again

Cokiya if there is enough wind or good gusts getting back up after a fall is easy, though some days I just have to wait for the next gust (sometimes 15 minutes) but it can be worth it if the wind picks up again. 60years young, 62kgs now, I ride a 4.6 / 23" 65liters, so its about the hardest board to light wind but I'm used to it now. Manoeuvrability is wonderful. In light winds I use a 6.0m hand wing.

I can understand. With that board is a little tricky.
My board for light wind is 92L (I'm 85kg) but it's 6'3"?23. Super easy to take off.

Regarding the new foils, I saw them recently in Maui. Very similar trailing edge to the KTs, so a very low stall speed but also fast. I didn't demo them but watching young Max Moquin and his dad on them they do look good. I probably should have picked one up but I decided to chop my 850 so it could handle bigger surf.

I did own a 1770 briefly and liked it for winging in very light, flat conditions however given that most of my winging is in waves I think the RS1150 is a better light wind, small wave option. My largest wing is 4'6m and I had no issues getting going on the 1770 in 10 knots (I'm 70kgs). Throw the M200 away and get the 1770, there is no comparison between the two

'What a difference a day makes', yes I am always looking for new wings to get more out of what I'm doing, and yet recently had a big 'click' moment where I found under 13kts I could do sooo much with the M200, it's crazy, it lacks glide, it's too slow and it slows down too fast, but if you can keep 'pull' in your hand wing you can almost stop, turn and go as long as you have that 'pull' to get you over the poor glide. Having a total blast recently.
Unfortunately all the new wings look large span and that doesn't interest me, i'm going to push my quiver to the limit and see if I can 'borrow' some foils to find out what I may be missing. Great feedback thanks everyone.

motogon - that sounds like a good combo, have you tried the 14.5 tail ? I've been using the 12.5 almost all the time but need to swap the 14.5 back in to check what was different, some combos just click for the rider.

When wind is over 10 knots I'm on GT1250 x FTL-14.5
I use 12.5 with RS975 in higher winds.

Kato I think its going to be different for each rider, 'advantage' I don't know per se, but I found the 12.5 long gave me more pitch stability and enough lift (or so i think at the moment) but felt faster and turned how I wanted. Like I said earlier I need to keep switching tails out on the same session to see if Im always getting what i want from each combo. Perso I want to try the 17 tail with the PNL to see if it has even more bottom end but doesnt feel draggy. I think Alex Aguira was saying you can get about the same pump up with a short larger tail as a smaller longer tail (I then prefer the smaller longer tail)

motogon I just dont see how you can ride the 1250 at that wind, (unless you are using swell) If its constantly over 13-15kts without lulls Ill take the NL220 but if not I need a foil with more low end as constantly dropping off foil is such a pain with a faster turny foil - maybe my technique still sucks I dont know. NL220 has been the most fun foil to ride but also the least satisfying because im slowing down too much

Smaller tail = less drag, faster, easier to turn.

Yes, using swell when I can, pumping in lulls.

The tails can make a huge difference in lift for gofoil. On a bigger wave day, I forgot my 14.5 short and used the 20 long. It had way to much lift riding the waves, I had to drive back home and grab my 14.5 to have any success. I was using my rs1150 which was a bit to big too, but I could make it work.
