I find the super high aspect wings great for downwind glide not as good close to shore.

Small high aspects wings have a good balance (look for 90 cm or less span). For instance the Cabrinha H800 has good speed and glide but turns really nicely. Also look into some of the thinner profile mid aspect wings (7.5-8AR). Supposedly the Unifoil Hyper 2 and the Armstrong Mid Aspect options are supposed to offer a good balance of these characteristics.

Takuma Kujira 1095 has a very good balance...

I moved away from HA foils for this exact reason. Gong do an amazing Foil in the Veloce range. It's the MT which is super thin , AR of 6.1, 78cm wide and 1050cm3. It's very fast, turns tight, decent glide and really good stall speed. Thin MA foils for alot of disciplines, user skill and spots are the way forward.

I agree with this, but it doesn't have a lot of speed if that's what the OP is after. Top end is limited on that foil and the front foot pressure ramps a lot. Otherwise it's an excellent foil that offers incredible glide and turning.

The new Skate (SK8) line from F-one seems to be exactly after that. AR8 with a good balance between maneuverability and glide with sizes from 550 to 1050 sqc.

You can see the Skate 750it in action on some of the latest misterbennetts insta posts. I was very impressed , have a 1050 on order. a wing between my Seven Seas 1200 and the Eagle 890

The Armstrong HA725 with a 50cm fuse and HA195 stab provides excellent hack and slash and amazing glide and speed. Is it easy to use and forgiving that's a big no but when the stars align you'll have some of the best moments on foil.
I chopped my HA1125 to 32" wide and it feels similar to 725 but with more low end. Still working on refining the tips to provide smoother breach/ventilation recovery.

im 90kg, sail ocean swell and waves & curently riding Axis (have HPS 1050/930 and was about to get a ART 999) and wondering about F-one foils for winging (only) as im hearing they (Eagle and Seven Seas) are even better? Do people mix and match or stay with the same model eg all Eagle or all SS

Depends on what you want. Bigger eagle still turns hard and turns like a ART 799. Sk8 will be and should be next level. The Eagle is fast, has great glide and turns hard, negative is you don't want to jump the larger one. Sk8 will let you.

SS is the same shape as the new Phantom -s. So they're very similar, just once they become SS they get fences.
The negative of Fone in Oz is no lie - they're expensive. You can use FX arb with our close proximity neighbours (pm for exact info) to save quite a lot.

It's not only the front wing. I have found it much easier to do banked turns with a smaller flat stabiliser, while the glide is a bit better with a thinner higher aspect ratio stabiliser. For example from the Sabfoil range the s370 does banked turns quite a bit better for me. Both with the HA wings (>10) and mid aspect (ca 8) front wings. The area of these stabilisers is not even that different, but the difference in the feel is easily noticeable, especially when doing banked turns.

As far as availability, it seems like Australia was a lot earlier than US to get the Eagles so maybe start seeing early shipments in a couple of months. that's why I put an order as soon as the word dropped. As for mixing, can't speak for others but I mix and match as much as possible, F-one and other systems (Axis included). I have 2 Phantoms, 2 Eagles , SS1200 and was about to get a Seven Seas 1000 when I learned about the SK8.
I can draw parallels between the ART899 (my favorite Axis so far) and the Eagle 890 but the Eagle has better range,
it's earlier to lift, turns just as well, lower stall speed and noticeably more relaxed in overpowered conditions.

it seems that with every generation F-one is able to deliver more accessible foils while keeping top performance which is why I'm eager to get my hands on the SK8. if you can order separate parts rather than committing to entire planes the C200 tail with xxs and xxxs fuse is the way to go IMO. For this year the C200 coupled with the xxs fuse is offered in mono-block version which I have on order as well. Not a fan of the DW210. I'm about your weight to put it in context.

Full agreement on THIN MA's. The "Tall" models of both the Fluid and Veloce front wings combined with the Pro stabilizers are my absolute favorites for all round balance for the average Joe. It would be great if all manufacturers provided a hard spec on the foil volume or foil thickness ( preferably both). Most don't, and all people talk about is area, span and AR.

hey Burchas - did you ride the Sk8 yet? im considering a move from Axis to Fone and thinking of the 950 or 1050 (and i might keep the axis HPS 1050 as a lot of fol i speak to rate it higher than the Phantom/SS equivalent))
