One of my winter projects is working on ways to go from sitting on my floater board to my feet fast...ideally skipping being on both knees - so not quite what I'm seeing in most rodeo stink bug starts (though perhaps I'm missing something there)

Alan Cadiz coaches a strategy in the video below...but he's a bit of an outlier to say the least...

I can sit on the floor and go right to my back knee and front foot with no hands and standing from there is super quick, but the angles are a bit awkward...still playing with it and looking for insights...

My "sniper" start is quicker and easier, especially in chop.

Here's what I've been doing, this isn't my fastest but it's the only decent video I have....

Wow, that's clean, I like the look of that.

kneel in surf stance, plant front foot, push up with rear foot. Basically you are getting up from a lunge position.

Yes, being surf stance lets you power up the wing quicker. Another advantage to getting on sideways is that with the wing in the water to leeward, I can overbalance onto the wing and hold myself upright as I transition onto my knees. I feel like the windier and choppier it is the more sideways I do it. If it's really light I'll kneel in a more parallel stance to get the board moving gently first or wait for a puff to come through.

If really nuking I do a windsurf style waterstart, but I have to be really powered on a 4.5 or smaller for that. I can't do the Alan Cadiz style start due to limited knee flexion from old injuries.

Hey Jonah,

What size board ( length, width, liters) is that in relation to how much you weigh

5'10"x20.5" 80L - I'm 95kg so it's a semi-sinker for me. I do the same start on my 125L DW board
