Hi all, what's the current thoughts on the best set ups for doing long upwind and downwind laps in 10-15 knots. Assuming a 5.5 wing.

Im imagining the priorities are getting upwind as efficiently so it doesn't take too long, and downwind its more about glide than turning.

Is something like the gofoil rs 1300 the best option?

And Duotone dlab windwing

My Cabrinha H1000 & 6m Slick SLS is good in those conditions. Points amazingly high up wind in light conditions.

In the F1 range a large eagle (1090) would be good for this , very fast, points hard up wind and loads of glide!

Haven't Had the Chance top Test, but the Gong Ypra hast been designed for exactly this.

My ART799/999 foils go upwind really well. If the bumps are small (which they usually are where I ride) and I want longer rides, I'll go with the 999 for the glide and perhaps throw a smaller tail on for better maneuverability. I also find that my Unit v2 (4m) goes upwind much better than my Strike CWC 6m but that's to be expected.

Yes sail is equally important. Reedin superwing v2, duotone unit (latest), and the newest Cabrinha mantis all point significantly higher than most other sails on Maui.

10 to 15 knots makes very tight and very small bumps so depending on your weight you may be better with a slower and more supportive wing than the arts.

I am a gofoil rider and find my old p180 very good for riding in such minimal down wind conditions. The pnl185 and the rs1300 would be better again but don't discount how fun the gt wings would make these conditions for medium to heavy guys.

I ride ozone v2 wasp 4 meter in these conditions and have found I point higher than most and have yet to follow any of the latest wings and see them point better. I thick any of the wings from reputable companies will point well with a good rider. For me, way more important is the weight of the wings and their stability while freewinging in these low winds you have. Some of these popular wings are just too heavy for this application in my opinion and weights are hard to find for some brands.

Presumably if you're serious about getting upwind then mast length is a factor. Go something longer.

I ride HA1250 and a duotone slick with an 85cm
mast, i can point higher than most.

I assume you're there already but basics first. learn to tack and ride heelside in both directions, this will eclipse any foil effects.
