Hi all,

I just bought a Fanatic Aero HA 1750 and Smik V2 6m to use on my 90L Slingshot Wizard in light wind around 8 - 15 kts on the lake. I'm 80 kgs. I was thinking, will I need to get a shorter fuse ? I've been using the 90cm for windfoiling so that's all I have at the moment. Next size down for me is 78cm. Apart from the 90cm possibly being too stiff, will I be able to get my front wing in the right spot ?

I also have a fanatic flow 1250 front wing. Does anyone know if this would be ok for Freeride winging when the wind gets a bit stronger or should I sell it and get something else ? Say an Aero 1500 or 1250 or mabey a glide or something else in the Fanatic range. I'm also gonna try and use my Flow 1000 in stronger winds but that might be too much and a little ambitious with a 6m given that I'm a complete newbie coming from windfoiling.

just wondering what people's thoughts are on all this ?

For winging I keep my fuses std length , you have a good spread of foils no 1000 , 1250 &1750 you really don't need anything else at this stage. Maybe when you get better and want to DW in the ocean then get something very high aspect. Fanatic will be no more soon and all will be badged Duotone and with that comes another whole range of killer foils , so I'd wait for that.

You can probably give it a shot. It would be ideal if you could have a better winger try your gear to make sure the trim is right.

I don't have Fanatic foils, but recently got a chance to try one, and see several set up for winging and windfoiling. I think the windfoil fuses put the front wing further forward, which is what's needed with a sail. That could mean that with a wing, your mast is further back than with the 78 wing fuse, so keeping the board from turning downwind when you get up, or making it turn back upwind, may get harder.

Your board size could be a bit more of an issue. Most wing beginners find it easier to start on a bigger board. If you're athletic, and/or have very good balance, and/or are stubborn, the smaller board might work to get started. Otherwise, the lighter winds you have may make balancing hard. On the plus side, most lakes are pretty flat. You could just try it for a couple of sessions, and only switch to a bigger board if you find getting up and balancing on the 90 l board too hard.

So you think 90cm fuse will work ?

It works fine. I learned to flying jibe on the Flow 1500. The 90 fuse will give you a smooth ride and a wide jibe arc, but it sounds like that will work for you now.

90cm fuse puts front wing 12cm further forward than 78cm fuse. Stab stay in same spot. I'll just try it and see how it feels.

What volume and type of board were u on ?

And yeah , the addled stability etc from 90 fuse will be good for learning.

The fuse will give you pitch stability, something that you want when learning. When you start getting in to jibing you may find it makes turning difficult. As mentioned above get an experienced winger to try jibing it to get their feedback. I used a Slingshot Hoverglide windfoil fuselage to learn to wing and it was perfectly fine, but I've also used another windfoil setup for winging that was awful for jibing.

Could try a smaller stab if you can if longer fuse feels to stiff ?

Could also drill holes in long fuse and move stab 1-2cm up the fuse effectively shortening it. This might not work though as different fuse lengths, as far as I know, keep the stab in the same spot and move the front wing further forward or back depending on length. Shorter = further back and longer = further forward.

"Drilling holes" won't work so well on the Fanatic fuse but you can try. Going to a smaller stab will help a little. But try it at 90 first.
