Finished my first wing foil season. I've been riding the fone phantom 1480 and enjoying it. Getting better at jibes but not 100% yet. I was looking at the seven seas for better down wind gliding in wind swell. My spot has good wind swell, and wind in 18-30knots.

should I go for the seven seas 1200 or 1000. Or maybe get a smaller phantom. I am 80kg.

Any opinions will be appreciated,

For gliding, you are looking at a 1000 SS or an eagle 990. Never tried the eagle yet. I tried the p1080 and own a p940S, the 940s is slimmer faster, carve very well but do not glide as the SS1000. The SS1200 is too close to the 1480 in my opinion.

If you are looking for a replacement the Seven Seas 1200 would be a good option. If you're looking to downsize for underneath the phantom the SS1000 is the way to go if you want glide & ease of use. For glide & high performance the 990 or 890 eagle would be a good bet. If you want to try some jumping and freestyle get the 940 Phantom S, I dont think the Seven Seas or Eagle should be used for jumping because of their long wingspans.

There has been a guy jumping the 1080 Eagle. He mentioned it was just lake swell, so 1-3m jumps. But do remember it's all m6. I agree with the above. don't jump it. Even the team riders won't jump it, save the energy for 740/840-s phantom jumping.

Thx for the advice. Not planning on jumping (yet). Sounds like the 1000 will be best for the 18-30 knot winds.

I would suggest that before you go with smaller faster wing try XS fuse and play with other tail wings. The DW210 and C200 Carving specifically.

The DW210 really improve the glide of the 1480 and the XS fuse helps with better turns. I have the Eagle 1090, SS1200 and Phantom 940 and found that these wings are too fast for most of my local wind swell runs.

The SS1200 Could potentially replace the 1480 with a bigger tail but I found that the 1480 allows me to slow down and focus on to reading the bumps. The other advantage of using the 1480 is the ability to use the smallest wing possible. At 85KG on 25-30 day I can easily use a 2.5M wing with a 60L board.

The 940 which is somewhat similar to the SS1000 require a lot more agility and technical ability than I posses in order to really make it work. It's good to have one for working on progression but I suspect it won't give you the most bang for you buck if your conditions are similar to mine.

For an intermediate, going from 1480 to 1000 is a big step not only in terms of surface - they are just very different foils. If learning to downwind is your intended programme, you need to practice slowing down and working the face of the swell relying less on your wing. In that context you should consider the 1200 or even a 1400. If you just want to blast through the swell using wing power then you could go smaller but then again a 1000 HA is going to be night and day vs your 1480. Best solution is to get a demo to experience them first hand.

Do you think the higher aspect 1200 will be more turney than the 1480 even though they are the same width ?

The SS1200 is more responsive in turns. I was on the XXS fuse with the C200 tail. 20-25 today on shore 3 foot bumps soft breaking.
The 1480 didn't feel right with fuse/tail setup last time I tried. I'll try it again see how it stacks.

mate, you're getting ahead of yourself. Ride that 1480 until you can make all your jibes and tacks and footswitch properly. Dont get onto a foil with a higher stall speed until you have made the most of what you have got. The Phantom is a great foil and will take you a long way in your progression yet.

Anything smaller in the range will be more agile than the 1480 by nature. The comparison should be between the 1200 and the phantom 1280 or 1080. basically if you want to draw fast planted arcs go for the 7S. If you want to keep the surf in the pocket feel go Phantom. Just dont go too small too quick you will slow down your progression.
