We're on holidays at Korora just north of Coffs Harbour. I'm pretty new onto the wing and keen for some time onboard this week. Any suggestions of good places to ride? (as flat as possible, I'm not ready for the surf!)

The Harbour, south of the jetty is a possibility. Heaps of wind shadowing from all sides. The estuary down Urunga way would worth a look.

I have tried to wing foil in the harbour, and when I was there it was full of weed.
Urunga is nice but you need a lot of local knowledge on the sand banks and the current can be tough.
Just looking at the map, depending on the wind, in a N.E, breeze, inside Little Diggers could be worth a look.
Unfortunately, Coffs will be a surf/swell riders dream.

I grew up in the area. As mentioned, inside the harbour - there will be areas with reasonable breeze and areas with big holes, if you manage to stay in the areas with good breeze you should have fun.

To the south, I'd avoid the Urunga area as the sand banks will be too much of a challenge. If you're up for some gybing practice, you should find decent water depth around the Mylestom area though it's pretty narrow so your gybes will improve.

If you're open to a little more driving, I'd go to Yamba (on the river) or Trial Bay/South West Rocks (it's open ocean though whenever I've sailed there it was pancake flat. Check swell direction?).

Good point. Bellinger river will likely be similar.

Trial Bay looks great for ocean winging access, and camping. Thanks.

For ocean winging with semi-protected launching and nearby camping options, in addition to Coffs, can you recommend anywhere else between Yamba and Trial Bay? eg. Scotts Head? Sawtell? Mini Water? Sandon River? Yamba and Iluka look like they could be excellent at times.

That location looks great on a map. From Cresent Head up to Ballina, there looks like at least ten epic locations for protected ocean access for wingfoilers. With just a quick look at satellite map views, some examples I found are:

Cresent Head, Hat Head, Sth West Rocks, Grassy Head, Scotts Head, Sawtell, Diggers Beach, Emerald Beach, Arrawarra Headland, Barcoongere, Wooli Wooli River mouth, Diggers Camp, Mini Water, Sandon, Brooms Head (in small swell?), Iluka (Yamba), and Woody Head.

Most of these map views show camping grounds, and I presume empty car parks during quiet time periods. A better 3D look on Google Earth would probably help me prioritise the list.

Sounds great. I'll try pick the right time periods. N to E winds. Smaller swell. And more closely check out the land and seabed topography too. I presume a lot less people will be holidaying in 2023, than 2021-22. But as always, time will tell.

Hey guys, I am getting a wing foil at Yamba so anyone around that area, that wants to foil let me know!

I have a place on the river inland a bit but will try up near the river mouth at Yamba too.
