I'm looking at changing brands to either. 86kgs+ gear intermediate foiler. I made the mistake of trying a F-one seven seas & loved it. I'm a bit put off by the f-one fuse connection so am interested in how the code 980s stacks up against it. I don't really want to go into the current F-one fuse debate, more after feedback about the code.
Currently riding a konrad LX970 on axis gear but want more glide & the seven seas has it in spades. Has anyone tried both? otherwise how is the glide on the 980s. I'm winging in 13-18 knots with the intention of getting a PW next season.

I'd be interested in a comparison to Duotone as well in that mix, mainly the glide version.

I have both F One and the Code 980s. My view the 980 is maybe around the old 1200SS. Code may have better glide, F One more predictable. With F one I would keep the 1400s as it is a very good allrounder and good in light wind. If you want more speed I would look at the Sk8s and they also turn better. I have the 1150 sk8 as my light wind big foil but it can do anything with the ss mono tail. I haven't tried the new improved v2 sk8s but that would be a good choice. You don't need to buy a mast and may have tail already.

I am now in the position where I have Code, F One and KT foils. Everything has got pretty good now with the foils and most of the differences are small between brands. I am hanging on to this equipment to be ready to make a change with minimal cost, vs selling now at a low price and then starting afresh.

The best thing is to ride each foil back to back and you will get a good feeling about what way to go. I did this recently with KT and AFS Enduro over 3 hour period with 4 foils.

I changed from Fone(have everything besides momentum) to sabfoil, much better fuse M8 and much stiffer mast. I'm not afraid of loosing anything :)
Foils are great to. Sabfoil need to release a momentum. I guess they will.

I had 1050/850 sk8 and I now have 980/720s.

They are directly comparable in terms of lift, the codes have better glide, speeds similar, turning the sk8 is out of the box better, but playing with fuse length and tails I've got the codes pretty similar. The f one HM mast is slipper than the code. I got a oneoceansports carbon mast and adapter which is now slipper than the f one.

I'm 83kg and with midlength hi and low boards, I think I could cope with 850/615s as a quiver.

What's wrong with Axis?

I've foiled the 980S and Eagle 990, both have similar sink rate and glide. The difference is the Code 980S can actually turn and is much more lively in pitch.

The Code S series is in no way comparable to a seven seas.

Axis are big in Oz and NZ, not so much overseas. This is probably because there is less choice here, the brands like Fone, AFS, Sabfoil are harder to get. So Axis, Code and big brands like Duotone are more popular here.

Code foils have the same type of mast/fuse connection as Cabrinha. Maybe Code worked something out, but the carbon wear in my Cabrinha's mast/fuse connection made it quite loose. (Yes, it can be ameliorated by applying a layer of glass periodically, but I was too lazy).

I had the 850/980s & now on the 750/900 Glide 2.0, both have similar glide/pump but the Duo is (for me) much easier to roll into a turn..feels not as locked in as Code. The Duotone Dlab design & quality is very impressive, I was keen to try AFS but too expensive to get their UHM mast & at the time no demos in Qld.

It's really a personal thing which one you might like more. The Code 980 has excellent speed and glide, should be a lot better than the Seven Seas on paper. I never found an F-One foil I loved, went from Takuma to Cloud IX to AFS on my journey.

Over here in NZ the range is pretty limited. Most local guys around here started on Axis or armstrong . The Axis guys then have migrated onto different systems as they have improved- mainly to F-one with the sk8s. Code is a pretty boutique brand here, like wise KT. AFS is like an exotic Italian sports car - out of reach. If I buy a brand like these there would be not much chance of reselling it easily & demoing a code will cost me $400 for a week.
I demoed a eagle 990 after the SS however found needed more speed even on my LWDW board on flat water to get it up than I expected. Much more than the Konrad. So I kind off wrote off the sk8 or eagle as a foil for me at this time. I think as pointed out above it was the predictability of the SS that appealed as well as the easy lift.

I think I might sit on it for the windless winter & see what happens next spring.

But at least you won't lose your plane. Basically, pick your poison. Maybe Duotone D/LAB has the best idea - saddle connection, but M8 bolts instead of M6. However, the fuse is noticeably chunkier than F-One's.

Yes I'm not sure there is a perfect solution. I use F-One and have never had any issues, but then I'm not heavy and don't jump. I don't routinely replace bolts either - though I do check them regularly.

I've had F-One for 4 months, jumping hard and no issues either. But I'm light and don't use big foils. I have not replaced the bolts, but after seeing some horror stories on FB, I will start replacing them regularly (at least every season, lol). F-One titanium M6 bolt heads don't round out. On the upside you will never have the pain of extracting them (had to do this twice with steel ones on my old foil). On the downside, without head wear there is no reminder to replace them.

Just briefly, the F-one SS is a 7 AR rather thick foil. The Code S series is a thinner than average 9.5AR foil, by design, much higher performance (and less forgiving). Code doesn't make a foil comparable to the SS.

They are completely different foils. 7S is a beginner foil. Eagle is a better comparison.

I've tried a few on that list, they're all good - and nobody will be able to tell you definitively which one you'll like the best.
Just try as many as you can, and buy the one you feel drawn to. It's kind of hard to go wrong these days...

I ride a SS1300 and SK8 750 as my main foils with the 95 14mm HM mast and am 100kgs. Ofcourse dont jump the 1300, but with jumping the 750 never had an issue. On holiday I was on the SS1000 for 2 weeks every day straight practicing my flakkas (and really practicing, doing a 100m run, tack, jump, crash or land, repeat), bent 1 bolt that whole trip.

I dont know how everyone is bending or breaking bolts, but you know, common sense, dont jump a foil over 1000cm2 or 90cm in span and you will be fine.

I jump my SS 1200 all the time, I'm 85kg, not broken any bolts. Prefer jumping the SS to my Sk8 850, can't really explain why, just a feeling. Had a Phantom 1480 for three years and jumped that too, broke two bolts and threaded one Titan mast foot but never lost the plane.

I have had AXIS HPS, then Spitfire and Now mainly always ride my Konrad LX 970, I am 86kg, 85ltr board not mid-length and it has plenty of glide, so bit shocked for that comment, about more glide it has AR 10+However, after picking up my friends Duotone glide 2.0 900 complete with fuse, I was blown away at how light it was, then he handed me the carbon mast, my god my Axis advance fuse weights a ton, my Alu mast weighs a ton!So I have been thinking for weight saving to switch to the Duotone Glide 2.0 900, of still AR 10+ but so much lighter in the end, Code foils up the coast from me guys are down winding on them, not seen any on the wing yet. Much stiffer tips (otherwise it's the same shape and is marginally heavier).
