Excellent review, and very much appreciated!
The only glaringly unanswered question is: Cedrus Evolution Surf to Wind. For your style of riding and the conditions used in, the Surf seems the logical call, but since you're thinking of getting an AFS, maybe worth talking Cedrus into a loaner Wind? Share this with them:
Personally, I don't get the rubber thing... but after reading your review I've gone from NL as only non stock mast to try, to also a Cedrus.
You know, I didn't even consider making a comment about the Wind model in my review. I was stoked to try it but when I got my hands on it at the beach a few things made me less than excited:
1. It didn't feel any stiffer than other brands HM/UHM masts when twisting it on the beach. So, if it's not stiffer, and it doesn't have the main cutout, it's simply a universal mast to me. Folks who ride longer masts would possibly disagree.
2. The shortest size I've seen around, 85, is going to equal maybe 89 with my AFS foils? That's longer than anything I've ever ridden. I'm a huge believer in short masts and adding a bunch of length for a demo was going to result in a very skewed experience. It would undoubtedly be slower rail to rail and I wouldn't have any frame of reference to form my opinion off of. If I met someone with an 80 I would give it a try.
Cedrus themselves are supposed to be releasing some Surf vs Wind videos and said they expect the surf is more maneuverable, faster, better glide. The Wind is better at going upwind and resisting ventilation in extreme conditions.
As for the rubber: If I didn't know it was rubber I wouldn't be able to tell. The ceramic coating on it makes it seem 100% solid.
