My vote goes for the waist coil leash.

Straight or coil ankle or calf leash, short. Keeps it well away from the wing leash.

Smaller negative volume board - ankle or calf leash for the board and waist leash for the wing. Waist leashes wrap the leg when you mount a board like this from the tail.

larger positive volume board - kind of depends on where the leash plug is. If it's close to your back foot position then a waist leash makes sense to get it away from your feet. If it's farther from your feet then I probably prefer an ankle or calf leash. I don't like the board leash and wing both clipped to a belt - feels chaotic.

either way, I've found Kaohi double coil 7mm leashes to be great. XM leashes are also very high quality and customizable.

When I tried a calf leach, I wore it on my right foot. Always had problems with stepping on the leach, when my right foot was front. How can I avoid this?

I use a very thin webbing leash, not coiled urethane, that way you can easily stand on it and it's no bother.

Belt and coiled leash; length so that when I stand it just touches the deck. Secret is to have attachment to belt in middle of back and when walking out or in the water to have the leash between your legs as it comes up to board. That way, when you climb on and jump to your feet it will end up behind you and run directly to back of board. Leash now never wraps around leg or gets underfoot.
