Hey, I still just have one wing: PPC 4.8. Great all rounder 15-25kts for 90kg rider.
But would love to get out in lighter wind. It seems my wife and kids need to be "uncomfortable" on the beach with 15+ kts for my ideal conditions.

thinking a big wing would help get out in <12kts.
seen a few reviews, what do you think?

Hands down the f-one 8m wins all battles. It's light , it flies extremely well and it can handle up 20kn with the right foil. The north 8m has lots of power but once the wind picks up it starts to misbehave pretty badly. I reckon PPC flies well and has power but it might be on the heavy side when the wind gets
marginal , but I haven't tried it so don't take my word on it for that one

the handles on the cwc v1 are aweful though. V2 is coming and it's got better handles

i'm 90 kgs also. got the 8m North light wind. it doesn't work in < 12 knots. 13-16 knots it works. after that i'm on 6m.

I prefer a 6'3-6'6 long board and 20-24" wide board or a large area foil. my biggest wing is a 5m bag and it gets me out in 8 knots. I'm 85kg.
big wings are for Florida.

Right now the F-One CWC is the light wind champ and nothing I've tried has come close to it. The biggest issue with pretty much all other big wings is their weight. When you go light wind winging you quite often get the wind drop and end up sloshing back off the foil. The last thing you need in really light wind where you are pretty much holding up the wing is for it to weigh a ton.

Until other manufacturers (aside from F-One) realise that a big wing can do without all the reinforcements and actually needs to be light nothing is going to knock the CWC off it's perch.

Quite literally nothing worse than slogging half a mile and getting off the water with your back and shoulders killing you from holding up a heavy wing. In some respects I don't care how easy it is to pump onto foil (as it turns out the CWC is the king of this as well), I'll pick the light wing every time as my first key requirement and light wind pumpability second.

No the brand is sold on soft handles. 23 CWC is due out soon, but hardware shouldn't of changed too much. Just new panel layout.

Yes definitely soft handles is my preference but they improved them between the strike v1 and v2. The v2 are so much better I haven't felt they need to be harder. On the cwc v1 they are plain yuck. I'd buy the cwc eyes closed nevertheless

I'm currently using a Sunova Aviator Pro 6'3x24
The Elite 6'6"x22" model would also work great.
Boards weigh around 6.2kg. The lighter the better for winging. I think any of the New Gen DW shorter sups will work great for lightwind winging. If I put my foil at the front of the tracks it doesn't feel
much different to my 5 foot board, however take off is soo easy.

Oh dear. Must be the rider. Already on 6'3 PPC board and have hs1850 foil wing. I'm 95kg and can pump up on little gusts in 12kts on a 4.8m.
so better not pin hopes on an 8m then?

have heard comments that unless you are a light rider, go 8m vs 7m.

No, not tried it, I'm sure it's a nice wing but it's also the most expensive wing on the market. It's also the worst mix of materials, super stiff leading edge and ordinary ripstop canopy material, so it's just gong to bag out faster as there is no give in the leading edge. They have the Aries-X material now to solve this but that is double the price of other wings.

OR obviously isn't for everyone but they are at the leading edge of both materials and the handle/boom issue. This encourages other manufactures to seek less expensive solutions that benefit everyone in the sport. Hats off to OR.

No, not tried it, I'm sure it's a nice wing but it's also the most expensive wing on the market. I'm not sure they will bag out quickly; I have Dlab 22 Unit and used it quite a bit, but its still very tight - as it should be at that price :)

I just did this research and nothing touches the F-one, but you need to use a harness with it.

Personally I went with the Cabrinha that was on amazing sale in North America recently. I might use it 20 times a year so didn't need anything too fancy.

I'm using the Flysurfer Mojo 7m for everything from 10 knots to 22 knots and love it. Then I go to the 5m Cabrinha. But I am a beginner so there may be better choices.
