Just a shout out to those who use the axis foil setups when wing foiling, specifically for wave riding.
axis have soooo many options now, what has been your setup evolution and where you at now.
Just to be clear again - axis only and specifically wave riding.
cheers in advance.

Hey Eppo

I pretty much settled on the 1000 wing and 460 tail. With a 82cm mast. I'm 85kg. This setup works great for me in waves and downwinging. I tried the 900 and that is also really good in the waves, but lacked the ability to slow down without stalling. The 1000 is a pump and glide machine. I haven't tried the newer wave wings but I reckon the 860 would be good winging. However, I've just switched to Armstrong HS1250/HS1850 on 85cm. Yet to test it enough to tell if it's the right move.

Can I ask why the 460 tail? It's flat from what I can see - I suppose that's good for speed ?
yeh I have the 900 and you are right about the stall speed. Been a bugger to learn on, especially gybes etc gotta keep that speed up

I'm just not convinced in the high aspect wings for wave riding though. Long downwind gliding on swell lines I suppose but not riding actual waves?
if you look at the Armstrong wings they are not high aspect at all. I'd say more medium aspect.

I suppose that is the aim of the new axis wave wings ?

I've only proned the Armstrong wing once and it's a class above the axis stuff for balance and speed. But too exy for me at the moment

what fuselage size did you settle for ?

It just seems to me that axis have gone a bit silly with all their options. It's confusing as hell.

I agree all the options are very confusing and there's going to be a new black series released too...

Currently winging on the 1000HA/390GAP (anhedral stab is supposed to add more glide and less breaches). Short fuse. 75 and 90 masts. Learnt on the 920/400. Can't say if it's the best setup for waves though, the 1000HA is designed as a downwind foil. It pumps nicely. The 860 surf wing may be worth trying. And there's a smaller flat stab 420 coming out too to complement the 460 (both the fastest stabs). Too many options...

I'm also curious to hear more about Armstrong from people who have compared both as I have no idea what I am missing out on.

Eppo.

the 460 tail is faster but a little twitchy compared to a 400. The flat tail took a while to get used to but is nice to have a extra speed and it allows you to really slide the tail out in turns. I typically do downwing runs and ocean swell riding and the 900 and 1000 do this well. I switched brands to try and get a better surf feel as I could not find what I wanted in axis. Not much help. :( The new axis black line look like flat high aspect but fit a new smaller head fuselage, And who knows when these will be available to the market. The 860 or 910 would be my pick of the current wings from axis.

That's a pretty good summary actually.

Shannon Stent, who has access to all Axis gear, uses the new surf wing. Big size about 1850. He was riding waves well.

I use the 910 and 460 tail combo. Great glide and can turn hard in the carves. Loving it.

There's a facebook group called Axis Foil Riders, you could ask there too for more opinions: www.facebook.com/groups/312231379875160/

There's a video of someone on waves using the 910

Hey Jason
Yep that's me. Only have a HS1850 currently.
I have not seen a 1250 yet, only photos online and it looks real good. The run we did last Dec 31st 2019 is still one of my favourite cut runs of all time. Epic swell that day. See you for another in the coming months.

So... what is the performance difference between the older 900 and the newer 910? Does anyone know?

Mate has the 900 which he uses SUP foiling but not wingdinging because it pokes a wing tip easily. Prefers a 720, go figure. 910 will be easier 900 will be faster.
Just use your 820 when light and 900 when windy.

I used to wing with the s1020 and s920, didn't like the s900 and s1000 when they came out, perhaps that was because I was still a beginner...
After that I tried the s1010 and s1150 , more glide and I gave them a month, they pump very good but my jibing was much better on the old low aspect wings.

Yesterday I was on the s860 for the first time and it was an eye opener!
I used it with the 460 tail , I didn't have to get used to it, my jibes improved a lot instantly.
It is just a bit small to pump @85 kg with the wing in one hand without any help from a wave
Can't wait to try it out in the waves!

I hope Axis will come out with a bigger version soon....

Cheers above. Makes sense. Same same as the 900 but better in waves especially for proning. Not sure there is enough there though to get rid of my 900 my all time fav, reckon a new tail wing woukd be the go first.

hey has anyone chopped there old 460 down to make it a flat back wing ?
