I have been learning on a axis 1020 (old s series) foil and I'm ready to step down to something smaller, find the 2000cm too much lift now. I will be mostly using it between 8-18knts wind speed before I go back to the windsurfer on fin. Weigh 85-87kgs depending on how satisfying the morning evacuation was and using a 6m Slick wing.
So my question is will the HPS1050 be too advanced step up (slalom windsurfer so enjoy speed) and should I go the BSC970 ?
also is the 1500cm area still too much for my weight with the higher aspect foils ?

Don't be afraid of the HPS wings. They rock. I weigh 105 kg (yeah, I know stop eating ****). I got the 1050 HPS & it's easy to ride & really glides. The 930 would probably suit your weight better.

You will love the 1050, however even though it will take you longer to get used too it you would love the HPS980 even more IMO.

I would say HPS 1050 as well. That said, when it's 15+ knots you can easily be on the 980. I'm 82kg and I use the 980 as my light wind foil. I was riding in 10-15 knots the other day, on that, and a 62L board. I was blown away that I could get that going in 10-15. So, yeah, keep an eye on the 980 as well.

I have 1050 and 930. (83kgs)The 1050 is really nice in lighter winds with great glide, and I'm surprised how early the 930 goes both great foils. IMO if going for lighter wind side of things I would go the 1050 to max the low end, I've had mine out in 20 knots no problem, or 980 as 2nd choice for more mid range.

the only issue I had is adapting to the different technique to get on foil. they come up really quick and then stall, need a bit of board speed to start with, then weight front foot once it comes up. Just takes getting used to, no probs really.

Depends if you want to carve more (BSC) or go fast and glide (HPS). The BSC will be slightly more user friendly with a lower stall speed.

The 1050 would work well then you can later add a smaller HPS size.

Don't forget to pair it with a progressive stab such as the p400.

This post is timely. 95kg and learned on an 1150. I'm just under 20 times out and well ready for another front wing that isn't so plodding. I borrowed a friends BSC 1060 and although not super fast- was definitely quicker than the 1150, has great low end, up easy in light air, turns nice.... makes jibes way easier, tighter, better upwind than the 1150. I might borrow a 980 to see how that goes, but think it likely be a 2nd wing for higher wind days at my weight- a stretch for the many light wind days here. I imagine the 1050 HPS is likely faster, better glide, bur maybe harder to get up in light wind and not quite as easy to carve as the 1060? Thoughts? After a few days on the 1060- I'm now ruined on the 1150 and need to buy an upgrade stat.

I learned to wing on the BSC1060 and once I was ready to move to a smaller front foil I tried both the HPS880 and BSC890. I settled on the BSC890 as it gave me similar liftoff and riding characteristics that I can gotten used to with the BSC1060.

Just pulled the trigger on a 1060 as my light wind wing. I demoed for 3 sessions. Very easy to get going in light wind- in some ways easier than my 1150 and is heaps better once going. It's not the fastest but fast enough, pinches into the wind well, very predictable easy, smooth wing to ride- even in turbulence and is super playful for a wing that size. It has smooth low end glide makes jibes easy and has a wide wind range. Was out in 12-15 that came up to 25 with zero issues. Stoked! I'm thinking the 980 may worth a look as an option when wind comes up- want to demo that next. I do have an 890 I use prone and have yet to wing on it. Need to give that a go- have no clue what kind of wind I need to get her flying. Maybe I'm already set for a while- until my skills improve or the inevitable new options Axis will no doubt tempt me with.
