Axis 1310 PNG - Massive wing. Wingspan: 1310mm (51.6in) Area: 2080 cm2 (322in2)

Paired with a 420, 90 cm HM mast, and short fuse. I'm 100 kg with intermediate skills. Went out yesterday in poor conditions, 1-10 mph, dead flat. Wind was mostly below 6 mph. Once in a while there would be a 12 mph gust but there was a lot of floating and holding the wing up.

The foil doesn't seem to like too much front foot engagement during the hand wing pump. It was really about getting the board moving and letting the foil do the lift. My Cabrinha Code 118 L board does not have the flattest bottom. It was weird getting up while going so slowly.

Once up, she's not coming down unless one runs out of steam. I went from 20% success rate gybing the huge 8m CWC wing to 100% success with the 1310. The thing has stupid slow stall speed. I found the foil to be HA in the sense that there wasn't a lot of drag. Speed was better than I thought it would be and given the conditions, I was plenty happy trading off a little speed for glide. I could easily pump 50 yards through the lulls. Any type of ripple helped.

This is a foil that I will end up using a lot. It's a session saver and I can gybe easily with my huge hand wing. It also excels at pumping and gliding through lulls and turns which is a fun skill to develop.


Compared to the 1300 PNG.... The 1300 is more fun and slippery with just a couple more knots of wind and no doubt exceeds in the swell. But the 1310 takes less technique and timing to get up and likely a knot or two less of wind. One knot is a big deal when I'm slogging around out there praying for a gust, and I know all I have to do is get up and this monster wing will keep me up forever. It is extremely stable which is helpful for beginners who are learning to foil, ride switch footed, or learning the post gybe foot switch. It definitely has a lower stall speed which gave me an extra second or two to get the 8m wing around. Of course these are all marginal gains for the experienced foiler who would otherwise be sitting on the beach in marginal winds or dead tired from pumping.

I have never used the 1150. I will give an update on the 1310. I don't use it very often now. At 100kg, I mainly use the 1300 in light wind. I have a very flat bottom board and my belief is that the 1300 has less drag while taxiing and if I can keep the board flat while I pump the wing, I can get to liftoff speed almost as quickly as the 1310. Once up, the 1300 is more fun and goes faster. 1310 seems to only give me a knot advantage on the low end. I would love to hear other people's comparisons between the 1300 and 1310. I'm also in the market for a Downwind board. And I think once I have that, I will sell my 1310.

1150 has ridiculous low end but coming with that it is very slow and draggy. The worst characteristic is tracky nature when on waves, seems to stick on one angle more than the 1300.

I've ridden the 1150 in 8-10kn on my 8' downwind board and it is pretty fun for novelty but I think the 1300 will be better as it would also easily get up but more apparent wind and has much better glide and pump.

1201 then better than the 1300, that would be the only one of all of these I'd spend money on new now that is is out.

I used the 1150 and it was okay, but as soon as the 1300 came out I never touched it again.

I recently ran the 1310, 1300 and 1120 all back to back on the same day (25 knot day with lake bumps). The 1310 came up as the winner simply because it comes earlier than the 1300 and glides much better than the 1120.

The 1310 will be my main foil and I will probably compliment it with the 1201.

I have a PNG1150 and an ART 1099. I find the 1150 is the easy button. I have a friend with the PNG 1310, and he may get going a touch sooner. My issue is once up, what are you going to do now? BAF or look for lumps? I find at my weight (109kg), the 1150 is pretty damn versatile. I feel I can turn it fine. When people talk about faster, I find this is more a perception issue, than actual speed difference. I rarely get blown out on the 1150, and in 15-20mph, my watch says about 1-2 knots difference between my PNG1150 and ART 1099. As my skills improve, I am using the ART 1099 more when the wind allows. I find it hard to justify the 1300,1310, or 1201 with my current set up and skills.

Smaller fuse and stabs make the bigger foils way more fun.
