Winging now for half a year and loving it. I'm on the 1010/460 Axis combo and with 90 kg my low end is now around 14 kts, with a 5 mtr Mantis. 6.2 is coming but deliveries are very slow in Holland. I'm looking for a low end wing for winging at sea with small waves. Around here it's hard to test axis wings so any info is welcome. Has the 1120 a better low end than the 1150, and is the turning better with as disadvantage a bit lower speed? I will accasionaly supfoil it so any info on that is also very welcome.

I have both wings. 1120 gets you up on foil a bit earlier, but has much less top end speed. I use it in extreme light wind. The 1120 will want to breach on a wave. It is not fast enough / too much lift. So on a wave you are more concerned with desperately pushing the nose down than enjoying yourself on the wave.

1150 is a much better all around wing.

1120 is for low speed light wind for big guys like me, or for teaching newbies, as it is slow and stable.

A tip, if you are a big guy, the 1150 with the 500 Anhedral rear wing gets you almost to the 1120's low end range, but is more fun to ride / more to end speed.

Top end speed on the 1120 is only about 12 mph. I use it with the 500 Anhedral wing in very light conditions. But I dont recommend it except for big guys in light winds and as a smooth stable slow teqching platform.

You can SUP surf the 1150 and have fun in up to chest high soft waves. The 1120 can surf 6 inch waves. The 1150 is the call.

I do use the 1120 winging in waves sometimes if I know it will be marginal... Pumping all the time and barely flying, onshore not sideshore. Even then you have to be a bit careful on the waves, as it is hard to hold down.

In short, if there is any chance for actual wave rides winging, you need the 1150.

If you want more low end, try the 500 Anhedral rear with the 1150. Significantly more lift / early flying (and less speed) than the 460 to me at my size.

Thanks for the answers, it will be the 1150 than, and I'll try to get my hands on a 500 rear wing. Until I got the 500 I can try it with my 440, which I use for kitefoiling. ????????

I feel like the 460 is more fun that the 440. Even though the 440 has more area / volume, I liked the 460 with 1150. Opinions will vary on that though. Easy to test both if you have both. Dont immediately buy the 500. It is only to push the extreme low end. You may find you have enough low end already by buying the 1150 and using it with your existing kit.

500 Anhedral rear defitinely lifts earlier than the 460. It also lets you work on transitions better (jibes / tacks), as it is smooth through turns and the speed that it stalls at is extremely low. But you are much lighter than me, so maybe its less critical to own that rear wing.

Funny the different opinions here on the 1150 vs1120 I'm 225lbs and favor the 1120 handling wise in waves by a long shot the 1150 for me would get a mind of it's own in decent size waves much too often,as the 1120 is much more maneuverable in a reliable way in waves it does not have the speed of the 1150 but with the 420 or 380 rear will go at a respectable clip not far behind the 1150.in decent waves plenty fast with wave energy.Lowend no contest 1120 handsdown since sold my 1150 in favor of 1120 if your more into flatwater the 1150 is great, but in waves and being a big guy 1120 will be a better wave rider carving wing IMO didnt like the wave riding characteristics of the 1150 much at all horses for coarses

Some big guys stop using their 1010s enjoying the glide of the 1150. I used the 1150 with the 460 in The Gorge last week fully lit on a 3.5 F-One Swing, because I was too lazy to change the foil in the higher wind. Worked fine. The foil has a wide range of use.

Maybe the smaller rear wings help make the 1120 more manageable in the surf. I havent tried that combo

For winging you'd really want to be on the HPS black fuse wings. They are next level in terms of speed, glide and pumping.

The biggest one HPS1050 is incredibly stable as it's so efficient. I've had a couple of 1h+ sessions without crashing

You'll be surprised how much smaller you can go with high aspect wings even for heavier guys

Have you tried the 1150 though Alysum?

I have the 1050 and the 1150 and as much as I love the HPS wings (the 980 is my most used foil for winging and surfing) there is no way the 1050 can match the 1150 for low wind winging.

Hey Kitesem, I haven't tried the 1120 but I am around 90kg and I love the 1150 for low wind winging in flat water or small waves thoroughly recommend it.

I think I can't go wrong with either of these three, but i hate to buy the wrong one for me.

Kitesem like you said here your looking for "low end "wing the 1120 is what your looking for,however the 1060 with your weight at 90 kg might be a winner for you as I can get going on the 1060 easy on a 5m wing and 1060 in 13-14kts so you should be able to get going at cpl knots less with 6m and your weight the 1060 is just a great all around wing performs and behaves very well if you get some some good waves.Now if your bottom line is wanting max low end with a 6m wing look no further than the 1120 with 90kg you could really get down a few kts.So based on your OP no comparison with early lift bottom end with 1120 vs 1150 however once again with your weight if you could make the 1060 your low end choice as it's performance and speed are a obviously a step up from the 1120,but the 1120 is a great fun low end wing that I can ride at 100kg easily up to 20 kts plus no problem,especially paired with 420 or 380 rear.at 90 kegs your top end might be bit less.try the 1060 out no doubt especially with a 6m wing
