I actually have an HS1850 on my A+ 85cm mast... but I might end up selling that wing and get an HS1550 V2 for random days. I can get up just fine on my Axis HPS980 in 10 knots with gusts not even over 13-15 knots with a 6.0 wing, on an 85L board, so I don't see myself using such a big foil anymore. I wanted to keep it to teach my wife and my daughters, but they are much lighter than me, so quite possibly the 1550 V2 would do that just fine.
I had the 1550V2 and the stability of the mast was totally ok. There's a different thread here about using smaller foils. I highly suggest trying sub-1000cm2 foils for light wind-game changer. I'd go for the CFV2s for newbies. I've been teaching my girlfriend on the 1200v2. Fantastic stability.
I have a V1 of the Armstrong mast that was converted to A+ and now use the 725 and 525 exclusively. For the most part, it works really well, but once in a while I have a random cavitation that is different from foiling out, going through white water, or over shallows. It feels like my foil twisted out of alignment with the board. It used to cause instant wipe out, but I've gotten better at correcting. It's nothing that would cause me to abandon my Armstrong gear, but it suggests there is still room for improvement with the mast.
My interest for asking about updated masts is about finding more ways to increase overall gear performance (NoLimitz narrow profile and stiffness as an example). If Armstrongs new masts are going that direction, I'll definitely be interested.
